Hello everyone,

I have just received the bandwidth bill for this month and it is absolutely huge.

I need everyone (apart from paid members/supporting suppliers) to look at their signatures and make sure that they are under 5k altogether. You can do this by right clicking on your sig(s) and hitting "properties".

If your signature is over this size, please edit it and re-upload.

If your signature is hosted elsewhere, you're fine - it's only signatures that are hosted on ECF that are a problem.

Many thanks,

SJ

Well, it shouldn't, because once an image is held on your computer it doesn't need to be downloaded again.

I don't really understand it either - perhaps an uber-nerd can explain how it works?

I pride myself in Not being an uber-nerd, but having endured thousands of headaches due to the Windows operating system I know more than I ever wanted to. It's true that most browsers will hold pictures in a cache so that the next time you view the page it doesn't have to redownload the same material.

And to Lacey:

Thanks for thanking me, and I also want to thank Smokey Joe for creating the pivotal point on the web for all e-smokers. I'd love to hear what Smokey Joe thinks about how big this has become. I bet when you first put this up you had no idea where it would go.

Hey Paul and thanks for contributing.

When I started the forum there was next to no objective information on the e-cigarette, at least in English (there was a forum on e-cig.com). There were a few European boards that had a lot of activity, and after enduring hours of reading dubious babelfish translations I set the forum up, at the end of 2007.

The forum grew steadily through last year, but we started getting spikes in December which floored the shared hosting (we were kicked off!). It took me a while to get the hosting sorted, but the massive numbers that we've seen joining recently only started in January, clearly driven by the media exposure the e-cig is getting.

Thanks to the supporting members and our sponsors, the hosting problems we were having are no longer. Our host is flexible enough that if we do start getting bogged down again, we can upgrade the servers at any time. We'll see!

As to the size, well, it's hard to say really. I hoped the e-cig would be big news, but wasn't sure that anyone else would like it as much as I do - the only thing that I wasn't prepared for was the community that has built up here. That's been amazing, and I feel very privileged to have played my part in it all.

Well, youre English-speaking cousins in the United States are very thankful. And by the way, I thought all you Europeans spoke at least 6 languages! :)

Wow, that's great you guys, I really do appreciate it! Ozrik, that's crazy generous. Thank you so much - it really heartens me that this place means so much to people.

And I agree, it is a very important resource - not because of me, but because of all the members who realise how important e-cigarettes could be.

Most likely yes, he could. I run a few forums, but they are all running Simplemachines forum. Vbulletin tends to be a little bit more advanced, so I'm sure that smokeyjoe could limit the size, since I have the ability to with simplemachines.

Besides, I doubt most users will even look at this post, nor change their profile. Oh well, hope they do.
