Hi folks! I'm just wondering if there are any tell tale signs of an atty going bad or having gone bad. Of course, decreased vapor or no vapor is understandable. Are there any visible signs? I think I've encountered my first bad atty. I was on a smoke break at work, and all of a sudden I lost throat hit. Vapor was still there, but th was completely gone.

Right before this, I heard a faint popping noise, different than what I've encountered with an overfilled or dry cart, and I'd just refilled my cart.

If it was the atty going bad, is there a way to restore it or fix it? This is a joye 510, and the start of my 3rd week vaping.

If vapor is good, but TH is not, it could be other things besides the atty. Could be the cart not wicking properly. Could be that the one drip of juice from the cart just didn't have as much nic. If the vapor is fine, it doesn't sound like the atty.

That said, I don't think there is anything obviously visible when they start to die. The heater is the coil under the bridge, and like a fuse wire, this can eventually break. Attys are cheap, though. Any 510 user should have several backups. Depending on how hard you drive the atty, they should last a few weeks, maybe a little more, at most. If it is getting very hot and hard to pull, a cleaning is likely in order. It could be your juice is too thick, or the juice has too many particulates...tobacco juices are very high in particles, and I've had them permanently clog attys, so I tend to steer clear of tobacco.

Also, I found the stock 510 cart filler was too unreliable to do what it is supposed to do. If you don't want to mod the cart, make sure the filler is fluffed up so that it cradles the bridge, and it is wet. I use the ZFM mod, which is auto-drip, and generally have no vapor or TH issues for many many hits before refilling. You can control the cart, but not so much the atty.

Another thing is was the batt fresh? A fresh batt will generally give a better TH.

it is really hard to tell as everyone has pointed out. so many things effect the performace and one problem can mimic another problem. Like atty doesnt seem to produce however the battery is low or not what it once was as far as holding a charge, The atty might be at fault or it is a low battery.. etc etc..

Attys will last anywhere from a day or less to well over months..

It is best to have plenty of back ups on hand at all times.

I dont clean mine any longer and they last me longer than when I fiddle with them..

Popping occurs for me when I haven't used the atty in a while. In that case I think it needs to pop to start preforming again, as I think its burning off gunk. It will also occur if you hold the button down without drawing any air. I've only had one atty coil break on me and it was more of a snap than a pop. The sound was similar to a pop rock hitting the ground.

I've lost 2 atomizers in 1 week, Im super confused.

I made my own USB Passthru hooked up to monitors USB Hub.

AM I KILLING MY ATTY'S?

FOr what its worth they always die while im on battery though.

1 was used for a while, so i thought nothing.

The 2nd was brand new and died in less then week.

Is your DIY PT powering the atty from 5V USB directly, or is the USB charging a batt which then powers the atty? If the USB is directly powering the atty at 5V, perhaps you are letting it go dry too often. This seems to be an issue with 5V PVs, since they get too hot and burn out. IDK, but maybe the atty finally died on the batt, but had been significantly weakened almost to death on the USB.

If you are powering the atty at a full 5V, you probably want to look into high-voltage attys. Nhaler sells them. If you are powering the atty from a batt on the PT, then it could be something else. I certainly killed my share of attys in the beginning from general abuse: cleaning too often or in the wrong solution, overheating them, etc. I use an auto-drip cart mod now, and keep my juices thinner than before (they are VG juices), and the attys are staying healthy for much longer now.

Always have extra attys for such situations. You never know when you will get a bad one that would have died sooner than others no matter what you do or do not do while vaping.

Thanks guys! After this happened, my battery died pretty soon. I just got worried at the popping sound and the sudden loss of TH. That's never happened when the battery went kaput before.

I just used a Joye 302 atty connected to a Spade 510 w/ adapter. Soon as I fired it up it made that 'pop' sound which was actually pretty damn loud. It had me jumping, throwing my face back away from the PV. I never heard that noise ever before so it def alarmed me. But as I type this, that same atty seems to be working just fine so ...meh.

Started using this new atty 3 days ago and it is still popping..it scared the crap out of me the first time since this has never happend before..It will seem like I am getting little to no vapor @ 5v on my xhaler then the atty will pop and almost choke me with it. Not sure why it is popping though maybe it is just gonna be a short lived atty.

I was in the mood to try another flavor besides TastyVapor's 'Atomic Fireball' errr... 'Atomic Cinnacide'...
Anyways, i popped a new 302 atty on so I wouldn't get a cross contaminated flavor.
( I don't feel like wasting time cleaning the atty out just to change flavors. )
And I'm getting the same scenario you just spoke about.

No vapor or very little at best. This one also 'popped' like the 1st one, even more so. And yea its def not cool having em 'pop' while your puffing on em...

Not really much of a 'flavor' to it neither. So I'm kinda leaning more towards blaming the e-liquid more so than the atty at this point for the lack of vapor. The vapor's just way too pathetic & the atty IS working. I'm just not getting good results.

Like I said my prior post tho. The 1st atty that 'popped' on me is doing pretty damn amazing, vaping like champ and hasn't 'popped' again since! So I'm really hoping the 2nd atty is acting up truly cuz of the juice itself.
This also leads me to believe that need I to stop wasting money on anything NOT labeled 'Tasty Vapor'.

if I get that pop it always tells me to throw some darn juice in the thing and it goes away, sounds like it screaming for fluid doesnt it when it does that, anyway I just throw a few drops right onto the bridge and always prime my Attys well, just my 2cents

In my case, that wasn't the situation at all. I actually wound up flooding the 2nd atty pretty good. For those EXACT reasons you just stated. I was thinking the same thing. No vapor + no flavor + popping attomizer > add more juice !!! = flooded.

Edit: I should probably mention the fact. I don't use carts... I direct drip onry!
So yea I prime also ....nonstop drip drip drip :)
