Silica v SS Mesh for 50/50 mixes

Evening all,

Quick one hopefully to be answered. Is silica useful when using VG mixes over 50%? I am having a hell of a time with SS Mesh and my T2 - burnt or off tasting (Even when not hot spotting), not great vapour, etc. Tried 500, 400 and 270 mesh and thinking of going back to 3mm silica (have not tried silica with my vg heavier juices). Is it any good/worthwhile?

Thanks in advance to all those who help! :)

Well , you can try silica . I use juices at 50/50 or more VG in my rba's and as long as I leave out the little plug or screw for the fill hole . Iv'e had no issues with wicking . I Use 400 mesh for those . And I use 500 mesh for juices heavy in PG . Seems to be working for me . One thing I think of is , are your wicks hollow , or solid ??? Mine are solid . Or maybe you might want to try some SS rope wicks . Good Luck

Tilt harder, geni-tilt that is. All genesis users do tilt even if they say they don't.

There's a good genesis tutorial here in ECF. Just can't find that link. If you're really really having a bad time with genesis style, maybe it's time to do a hybrid setup -- drip setup, all holes wide open, and you tilt your gear to deliver the juice from the tank to the wick above.

It really depends on how you roll your wick with high VG content juices. A solid-ish mesh wick, for me at least, tends to have lots of issues with high-VG or straight VG, whereas I've had lots of luck with more hollow SS wicks at high VG, but it requires active tilting to a sharp degree. Personally, I've jumped on the SS cable (sleeved at the top in 400 SS mesh) bandwagon, nothing else wicks as well, I can rock 30/70 pg/vg or straight VG with little to no tilting, and anything 50/50 needs to be not tilted just for it not to flood, it wicks that well.
