So, there have been issues with the SB? Ok, I've got 4 vent holes spaced equally toward the bottom of my SB now. Burnt off face, or burnt hand...........I want neither. I just posted a video on my youtube on how to drill holes near the bottom of your SB for safer ventilation if your batteries were to run away on you.
Not with the SB, with stacked batteries.

Short answer yes we have. There have been a couple of SB that stacked batteries have vented. The units battery bushing and wire was shot. The unit was rebuilt and sent back to the customer. The SB vented as it was intended to, from under the switch and remained intact. We had one other occurance where the customer actually heard one of his stacked batteries explode inside of the SB, he described it as a shot gun blast. The SB remained intact once again sitting on his table. We have also had a batteries vent inside of an Omega. They were stacked and non rechargable. They went thermal right after he pulled them from the charger and tried to take his first hit. The vents worked how they were intended. The customer had only a burn on the palm of his hand from the hot gas.

We totally understand your concerns, especially with recent events. I assure you though, the SB is vented. Chad has also done extensive tests on the SB and the vent holes that we supply work exactly as they are supposed to in the event of a battery issue. Obviously, if you're more comfortable adding additional vent holes, you are welcome too.

As a Silver Bullet fanatic who has a crazy amount of them and has been using them for nearly 3 years... I promise you, the venting that Chad has put in place is effective on it's own. We know this from experience.

p.s. I love my pink SB too :)

Damn, mutilating Silver Bullets so you can have VISIBLE vent holes.. what's the world coming to ? I rather have a battery go ka-boom in a SB than in ANY OTHER device. Due to crappy adapters i shorted mine 3 times, each time i re-shaped and cleaned the spring, and each time performance has been the same. Accidents happen due to user error 99% of the times, it's not that hard to check battery voltage, and stay away from unprotected stacked batteries if you're not certain of what you're doing.

I've had 2500 mah LIPO batteries "explode". I've had other Lithium cells vent. They aren't full of nitro, people. The SB isn't some cheap Chinese flashlight. I get the impression that some people think they're going to blow up like a pipe bomb if the battery vents, with shards of aluminum embedding themselves in nearby walls.. It ain't happening that way and the SB/BB has a heavy enough wall that even if it wasn't vented at all, I'd be shocked if it did much more than get hot and displace the switch a little, ultimately preventing the pressure from pushing the connector out of the top.

There's a ridiculous amount of paranoia going on about this. If a 2500mah 11V LIPO can vent and be contained in a small, unvented coffee can, the built in vents in an SB are more than sufficient to prevent any catastrophe. A battery explosion is not a high velocity, high rate of release type event like a stick of dynamite. I hope Chad doesn't screw up his SB/BBs by drilling unnecessary vent holes in them just to satisfy unfounded paranoia. If he does, I'll bet more people get liquid in there and screw something up than be "saved" by them when a battery vents.

um, well the mod that was involved in the first accident was another american made mod made by a different vendor. it was supposed to vent another way than a hole too, so why not have the extra precaution? you're not gonna see a vent hole on the bottom. I think it's just smart for him to consider

I have considered it :). they are going on the bottom, I do not want any of my devices having plasma tips(slots) on the body. I have had the vent under the switch since day one, well the very very first one did not, but some folks feel bettter about something they can actually see. I know that the current vents work as they were intended to, but I have no issues putting them on the bottom of the tubes as well. The Switch will remain vented as it is as well.
