It's time to start this thread. Bent stem Springfield's with all silver/germaniun alloy contacts and gold wire connections. I already use gold wire connections on my pipes because I only have one connection. The center pin on the 510 has always been silver/ germanium alloy as well. Now all the contacts will be silver. This is not a sub-ohm pipe. It will still start to shut down under 1.5 ohms. It has always been my goal to build the best auto touch pipe on the market. One that you can just hold and will come on when you put it in your mouth. It needs to have replaceable parts and can be repaired. All parts are silver soldered together because it has to be heat treated. Normal solder would melt off. I'll show you how I put this pipe together over the week or so. Enjoy:D

Doing the battery holder is like doing jewelry. Very small pieces being heated to slight orange. Had to drag out my jewelers torch. Made the contact post out of brass but, made them short by .062. Then silver soldered the silver plate to the top of the .125 post. Put it in the lathe to trim it square after it was heat treated. Drilled and tapped it 2-56. The 510 connector also has silver on it's face and was machined to it's final dimensions. Now when I cast the battery pack, only the silver contacts will show. I'll do that today.:)

The battery holder is done. It takes 32 parts to put the battery holder together. Most of that is molded into plastic to make it water tight and easier to replace. You can see the two contact post on top of the holder and the positive tab for the battery. Also the battery spring has a large silver contact. The pos tab looks so good I hate to put red paint on it. Maybe just a little. Next is the EGO connector and start the work on the stems. :)

Moving onto the stem. There is a stainless steel insert that goes into the stem of a Springfield. It has two slots on each side so you can push it on. Then turn it 1/8 turn and hear it click into place. This part is first turned on the lathe with a knurl on the outside so the plastic has something to grip to. Then it goes into a drill fixture to drill four pilot holes. The pilot holes make it much easier to start machining the slots. It goes from that fixture, to another in the mill that aligns all the grooves and places the detent notch. The second setup puts in the six degree slot that tightens the stem on the pipe as you turn the stem. I have the program to run this on the CNC just haven't done it yet. Next is the EGO connector.:D
