Hey all, I could use some advice in finding the right size battery for my tank.

I recently got my first real setup: Nautilus tank; which I truly love, and a Smoktech SID mod. Together they make happy vapes...but they are more of a stay-at-home couple. I can't take this SID beast along with me, and definitely not in my pocket. I recently got a evod twist, 900, but that only lasted a few hours with a full charge, which was disappointing.

So I want to get an additional battery that is variable, (or can vape at around 4.7v) can last a full day with normal vaping, and is small enough for my pocket. In doing some major research; it doesn't seem like this criteria exists.

My ideal would be something like the size of a smaller mechanical mod, since they are shorter and fatter. But since I want to keep using my Nautilus tank, and those arent variable, this doesn't seem like a solution. I've seen a few of the square sized Innokin iTaste style batteries, but is that the only size a shape that's an option? Seems like it would fit oddly in my pocket, and I could see the glass Nautilus breaking.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, if anyone can translate what I'm looking for. I'm still learning, so please forgive any lameness in terminology above :)

How long do you want the mod to be? Measurements are a huge, huge help when discussing how long you want something to be but hardly anyone in the vaping world uses measurements. Most mods and APVs are designed to metric specs and are measured in millimeters. The form factor is also important. Tube mods are a long tube, box mods are shorter but they are boxes.

Size makes a difference when it comes to battery capacity. The bigger the battery the longer you can vape with it between charges.

I use a tube mod APV that is 112mm long and 23mm in diameter. This includes full APV electronics and a 1100 mAh battery that will last me half a day. I carry it in my front jeans pocket with a carto tank installed all day long. I also carry an extra 18500 battery (18mm in diameter, 50mm long) in a plastic case.

Thanks for the reply. You're right, it's hard to even find the specs of the size on my SID online. Measuring it myself, it's about 130mm.

And doing some ballparking, I think I'm looking for a Tube that's around 90-95mm in length. I'm not too picky about the diameter, since my pockets are big, just not long. And I'm thinking that it'll need to take a fatter battery anyway, if I can also get close a full day's worth out of it.

Much thanks if you know of anything that fits these specs that's variable.

as a recent owner of a mvp v2 I highly recommend it :)
and  at the title ;)
Size Does Matter
For those out there with the "size problem"
Here is something to give a good judgement
1456667_10151989395695970_921291825_n.jpg

........
need to update and put the mvp in the pic but anyway
here's one with the mvp with a 510 adaptor (to save the threads and if any tank leakage protect the battery) on it and an eternity dripper and long stim drip tip...
10444382_10152505103940970_3081935375102645154_n.jpg

so...if you put a tank on it it would roughly be the size of two 18650 batteries side by side, as think as one and then if you stacked a battery on top of one side....it fits in work shirt pocket, though the tank does stick out...if you don't use an extension adaptor it prob wouldn't be that noticeable but with my adaptor almost the entire tank sticks out....
or roughly the size of an iphone (height and depth, only a not as wide...)
it's vv 3.3 - 5.0
vw 6 - 11
checks atty's oHm
puff counter
2600 mAh battery ego and 510 connection (comes with a nice beauty ring to hid the ego threading)
built in battery but so far no worries, i vape on it and so far charge it maybe every 2 days and only 2 times now has the battery life indicator turned yellow (green fully charged, yellow low life, red dead)
passthrough battery so if you wanted to can vape while it charges, though the charging cord is short so need to be close to power source...lol and if you wanted or needed to can use it as a battery backup to charge other devices (ie phone)

The APV I use is a Sigelei Zmax telescopic V5. As mentioned it's 112mm long with a 18490/18500 battery. It's 100mm long with a 18350 battery. The problem for me with all 18350 batteries is the 750mAh capacity. I need four of these for a day where two 18490/18500 batteries last me all day.

The Provari is shorter than the Sigelei. It measures about 102mm with a 18490/18500 battery and the optional 18490 battery cap. One of the ways Provari shortens the length is by eliminating a 510/eGo connector in favor of a 510 connector which is great if you only want 510. Provari is VV only, not VV/VW. Provari Mini is 84mm long with a 18350 battery

i get a chuckle when i see a post of this type , i think everybody hates the large sized devices but also hates 2-3hr battery life on small devices , when i started there were no large devices only pen style and man let me tell you i had pockets full of them when on a road trip , but i got to laugh when people have a problem with a square style device , you must have cursed your lucky pack of cigaretts on a daily basis when you were smoking , as far as pocket friendly devices i dont use my pockets for vaping i opt for a flashlight holder that i modded to hold my provari or other devices i hope you find a perfect battery fit for you because this is one of the main concerns when people have made the decision im never going back to the ciggys again

You definitely need something with a replaceable battery. I carry my Provari with an 18650 batt installed and a Kayfun 3.1 RBA tank. I also use the Nautilus when I can find coil heads that work for more than a few hours. There's a lot of bad coils out there these days.

The Provari with the 18650 battery cap is 4 5/8" long. With the Nautilus installed, it's 7 3/4". I also carry an extra 18650 in a plastic box along with a filled mega carto in case I need it for some reason. Sometimes, I stick a 3ml sample bottle of juice in the battery box if I'm away from home long enough to vape out the 4ml in the Kayfun.

I go from about 7:30 in the morning until mid afternoon on one 18650. The second one takes me to bedtime.

Charging capability makes a difference. If you have USB ports or an inverter in your vehicle or charging ability at your workplace you can use most anything you want. Size and battery life are related. Smaller is not better in terms of charge life. Your best bet for short length is a mod that uses 18350 batts and a charger that you can use every where you go. Charge up 4 18350s for a day at work.

The Sigelei Zmax Telescope adjusts down to a short length with 18350 batteries and is pretty compact. You might want to find a B&M that carries the most popular mods and see them in person for the best fit.

Length with 18350 and 18650.
Length:18350 99mm ; 18650 120mm

The MVP, without a clearo, is actually smaller than a pack of cigs. I can understand people not wanting to carry a 18650 tube mod around with them but, when someone suggests an MVP, they say "It looks too big and boxy".

Their is always a trade off with batteries. Small=fewer mahs portable, Big=more mahs but big.

DaveP brings out the fact that total length is what it's about. The atomizer and drip trip adds length and you can tailor that length to suit your needs. These come in all sizes.

On the left you see the Sigelei V5 sized for a 18500 battery and 112mm long. The XL length carto tank and drip tip adds 64mm for a total length of 176mm or about 6 15/16". This is a fine pocket size for me. This tank holds 5ml of liquid, enough to last me almost two days. If I fitted a 18650 into the Sigelei the total length would be 191mm or about 7 3/8". This will still fit into my jeans pocket but is a bit too long for all day comfort for me. 18650 will last me all day.

On the right are two V3s sized for 18350. The shorter one has the short battery cap and is 100mm tall. This is the same height as a pack of Camel Blue 99s (hard pack).

2014-07-10 13.40.41.jpg hi this is a dna 30, it is smaller than a pack of smokes and takes one 18650 battery. This unit goes up to 30 watts and can sub ohm down to .3 if your interested in that. It's been a great unit and comes in all colors. It has a dna chip inside
It's called dna 30 by colupor. It's a lot smaller than itooks. If you would consider a box mod, this is a great device.it also has built in voltage and ohm meter :)

Shadav - Great comparison shots and content!

Yzer - You hit the nail on the head…I didn’t know Provari made a Mini. 84mm is perfect; but of course it’s a fortune, blast it! I think that is pretty much exactly what I’m after. Much thanks. And ya I have a short drip on the way, which I’m hoping will help with the total length. And that’s a really good size, I could make 6 15/16" work, my current setup is closer to 8 plus drip. Hmm…

Willie- So true. And you vaped up the hill both ways? ;) My main thing about the box shape is that in my pocket, I couldn’t keep the tank attached, especially a glass one. Sitting down would likely crack it right on the sweet spot. But I can probably get around that. And I’ve been thinking about doing the flashlight holder thing as well, good call. I’m shocked that there aren’t many sleeve-like cases for these like a good mag has.

DaveP - I’ve heard about those Nautilus coil problems around here. I just preorded the mini yesterday, so hoping when I get that, I’ll just use those new coils. Great suggestion on the Sigelei Zmax Telescope; looking into it, and good suggestion about going B&M.

Gandy- I’m looking for perfection, please leave battery logic and physics out of this ;) I actually might end up going the MVP route if I can figure out an easy way to carry the tank in my pocket. As I said above, I just fear it cracking since it’s an odd shape together between the two.

Baditude- you may have just found the answer- wow. I’m already using 18650’s with my SID, and I like that it’s smaller than the others….thank you so much. I’m gonna research that one heavily right now. And good suggestions otherwise too.

Realsis - Another great option, thank you! Yeah I’m liking the size of these a lot better.

You guys are truly-truly amazing, thank you all. This is my first thread ever, and I can’t believe how helpful you all are!

I was one of those, hince I got my baby the TECs...went from cig-a-like to vv ego to the TECs (similar to a vamo) and now got a MVP and am rather impressed by it...while it is boxy and I didn't think i'd like a box type mod it's not that bad and it is about the size of a phone and lasts a long while before recharge and for being a built in battery i'm very impressed by it's battery life....

but yes you can get regulated mods that can use different sized batteries to make them smaller in size...my TECs in 18350 will last maybe 12 hours give or take while in 18650 lasts a day or two give or take....the mvp so far has lasted at least 1 1/2 to about 3 days before charging

There are lots of mods out there though....and from what I see is you really want to keep with the vv (regulated mod)
may I suggest looking at FasTech if you don't mind buying from china and can wait and wait ;) typically a month for shipping, but it's free shipping (or paid for faster shipping options) and offers some authentics but mostly knock offs...just make sure before you buy anything read reviews and ask here in the forum on opinions. Or simply use them to judge what you might like and buy else where....fasttech is also great just for a one-stop shop/browse and they are usually pretty good in their description of mods about the height, width, length ect of devices ;) I use them often just for research purposes :D

i.e.
SID mod
DEPTH 23 mm
HEIGHT 132 mm
WIDTH 23 mm
PRODUCT WEIGHT 76 g

Nautilus style (clone)
DEPTH 22 mm
HEIGHT 84 mm
WIDTH 22 mm
DIAMETER 22 mm
PRODUCT WEIGHT 70 g

iTaste
CABLE LENGTH 76 cm
DEPTH 16.3 mm
HEIGHT 111.3 mm
WIDTH 15.1 mm
PRODUCT WEIGHT 51 g

my baby TECs
DEPTH 31 mm
HEIGHT 182 mm
WIDTH 31 mm
PRODUCT WEIGHT 227 g

MVP
DEPTH 22 mm
HEIGHT 180 mm
WIDTH 41 mm
PRODUCT WEIGHT 186 g

I know, perfection would be nice but does it exist?

Just a suggestion but, what about a clip on cell phone case like for a Blackberry or similar? Clips on to your belt or waist band. I found one at the Dollar Tree but they are all sold out in our store. I would think that anything that's in a pants pocket could get broken.
