Slightly bewildered but up for it!

Hi there,

This is my first post on this forum, I've found it very informative and I've been reading all day! I figure that by switching to e-cigarettes I am at least in control of my addiction and much better able to understand it. I've always been horrified by the idea of additives in most tobacco (aside from American Spirit and a few other additive-free brands) the "secret recipe" that's actually allowed to remain secret! I've convinced myself in the past few days that I should see quite clear health benefits using some kind of e-cig system and when I talk to my mum about it - she was up for it too.

Now I've yet to properly talk my mum about this (there is SO much information and so many options that apply to certain tastes, it is pretty clear to me that the first choice is almost never the right one here and there is lots of experimentation to be had which appeals to me) so I will try to figure out what is right for her later but for now I have a few questions (to be clear I have used an e-cig once (I think I would now recognise it as 510 or similar), years ago in a pub and thought it was a similar experience to snuff without the dirty nose)-

1. When going for my first e-cig (really not concerned about how the unit looks as I used to smoke pipes and now smoke hand-rolled cigarettes also I figure I'll be alright with manual as I'm familiar with water-pipe and other controlled smoking methods) I figure the one with the broadest possibilities for upgrade would be the best as this vaping experience seems to be very personal. I like the re-useable nature of the tank or clearomizer set-ups, and figure I'll be one of those who needs more of a "hit" as I smoke 30+ rollies a day (unfiltered, if anyone's sure that makes a difference) so I figured I'd get an eGo starter kit with a 1kmA and LR atomizer so I could try carts (I don't imagine I'll be afraid to refill, I love to tinker) and then get the CE2 Clearomizers as well. Do ye lads think getting these two options at the start will give me a way to certainly stop smoking tobacco or should something else be considered?

2. My mum smokes tailor-mades and sometimes rollies but needs a machine - she smokes almost as much as I do and anticipate she'll need a good but also hassle-free hit (honestly, I'm so appealed by all the potential fiddling about here I find it hard to see the most hassle-free way for her) suggestions for this would be great but I figure it'll be the KR8 or a 501!

Any advice/help on these things or how to emancipate myself from this excessive verbosity would be greatly apprecitated!

TL;DR

Beginner to e-cigs wants to ensure nicotine addiction satisfied, carts + cartos enough or need I explore more?
Heavy smoker wants closest to analog but will sacrifice looks for functionality as long as it gets her off the fags?

Great community, this site has been over-informative
Thanks!

Heyas WakeDropWalk,

Great post! And happy to hear you're so interested in vaping!

Sounds like you're spot on with everything you have planned. I'd say take the plunge, order away, try it all out, and be ready to try alot of other things once the gear is in your hands and you have a better idea of how it all works.

The ego does indeed offer tons of upgrade and accessory options. I think it's a great starter kit. Then again, it was my first serious kit, so I may be biased :p

Only other things I might suggest is throw in a driptip or two (they only cost a couple bones each). Great way to try out new juices without pretty much ruining a carto (or clearo) with a juice that ends up tasting truely horrific. Don't worry if you don't quite know why a driptip would be useful yet. You'll figure it out once the gear is in your hands. And driptips are just about always useful to have around for other vaping uses. Also, I'd suggest getting juice in a variety of flavors in smallish bottles (3ml - 10ml). Since you're looking for heavy nicotine intake, something between 24mg - 36mg is what I'd suggest. Also, I'd say look for juice that's 100% pg, or mostly pg. Less vapor from pg, but more throat hit and flavor. And higher vg contents don't play well with some gear just because it's much thicker than pg.

I also like 1.7Ω carto's on my ego, but that's just personal preference. From the sound of your post, you'll be trying all kinds of different option.

I'm with ya on the whole love to tinker thing. I love to tinker, love gadgets, drool over shiney new toys, and have a SEVER case of OTD (Obsessive Tracking Disorder)

Best of luck to you. Experiment. Have fun. And welcome to the ecf and the wonderful world of vaping!

I will caution you that there really is no "hassle-free" way to vape -- despite many of us searching for one. Tanks leak, cartomizers need continual topping off, dripping is by nature a bit labor intensive... None of it is as simple a plucking a fresh 'log out of the pack and lighting up.

My advice for the simplest experience is to carry 5-6 cartomizers and swap new ones in when your current one starts to lose flavor or taste a bit burnt. But, you will spend 15 minutes every evening refilling those cartos for the next day. Probably not a big deal to someone accustomed to rolling your own.

Yup, that's what I do. Just fill 5 once a day.

Thanks for all the advice guys,

I found out that my mum is pretty much in for the same thing I am and I'm the type of person who'd spend 10-30 minutes a day cleaning a pipe so I doubt 15 minutes working with e-liquid is going to be anywhere near as testing as trying to get rid of all that tar! I've made an order for mum and I and I'm really looking forward to it. I kind of hurried on the "first" order because it seems like you can't buy e-liquid containing nicotine here in NZ but I should be able to get any further hardware supplies here :D

Thanks again.
