Slightly odd (possibly dangerous?) issue with my Zenith V2

Hello all!

So I have owned my Zenith for quite some time and it has been great. Today I was vaping on it and noticed a bright light from the air holes and a terrible burnt taste. I am running dual coils (26 g) for about .5 ohms. I took the cap off and the coils were fine but the mod (IPV v2) was reading no resistance. So I moved the atty to a DNA 30 mod which immediately turned off the display (which I have never experienced before).

Me being the super intelligent(?) person I am slapped it on a mech mod and tried to fire it. Right under one of the coils, by the middle post, was a super bright light. I let go of the button immediately so I didn't cause any issues with the battery. Below is a picture of what was located under the coil. It seems like some sort of metal ball thingy. Possibly kanthal? I have no idea where it came from, but it is stuck solid on the base of the mod. I was able to tap the fire button a few times and half of it broke off, but a larger ball is still suck on the base.

It seems to fire normally, most of the time, now. However, I am super uncomfortable putting this is in my lungs if it may accidentally fire some random metal fumes into my body. I am going to attempt to contact Crescent Moon Innovations to see if they can replace it, assume it is not user error. I would hate to be screwed out of such a nice atty for a reason I have no idea of.

Anyways, if you have any idea please let me know! I look forward to hearing back.

Thanks
~Zach

I'm thinking Lead, or solder.

I don't understand why the deck area in the picture looks so.... uneven.....plasticy? Why isn't it flat?

I really hope it isnt either one of those. Where would lead or solder even come from? And it most likely looks like that from the copious amounts of juice I drip at a time reflecting some light. I just double checked and the deck is flat.

Well it's got to be like lead, tin or solder by the looks of it; sounds like some kind of molten metal.

1:
So didn't the coil fail afterwards or is that the same coil in the picture?
Because if it's the same coil then I guess it didn't come from the coil.

2:
How long have you been vaping on the same coil.

3:
What liquids do you use?

4:
DId you use any nr-r-nr prewelded wires for coil - some of those have been coming soldered instead of welded.

5:
Is that the copper version zenith?

Thanks for the quick reply.

1: The coil did fail at first. It was a dual coil setup. I took off one of the coils to see what was underneath it. I assume I could put the coil back with no issues. The other coil is fine. I can vape it no problems right now but it tastes terrible, so I stopped.

2. That coil is probably a week old or less.

3. Epiclouds Moms Pineapple Cake is the only juice ever used on the that coil.

4. It is 26g kanthal A-1 wire from kidney puncher.

yeah that really looks like a smidge of solder, so yeah if it was a piece of left over Kanthal that you melted into place by arc welding... damn boy.. you generated a lot of heat in there. You might look at the insulate too, see if you didnt partially melt that. I dont know what it looks like in your particular atty, but it will be some sort of plastic or silicone looking thing that seperates the positive post from the rest of the atty.

@AzPlumber: I will have to try that. Every time I vape it (I assume it is OK as it is no longer heating that little ball up), it tastes terrible. If I cant get the blob off, I wouldn't feel comfortable using it.

Looks like the gap (between blobs) is close enough to still get a bit of arcing that would produce a bad taste as it would burn any juice in that area. Clean that blob off with as stone drum on your dremel and I'm sure the bad taste will go away. Just make sure to clean the whole atty after removing that molten metal blob.
