Moving the coil around affects how the air flows around it. The air is going to flow in the hole and then bend up and go out the drip tip.
Closer to the hole usually increase flavor because you're getting airflow all around the coil by placing it in the direct path of the airflow.
As you move it down and farther away from the hole you miss some of the direct flow, so the result is less flavor and mellower hit.
Move coil up to increase
throat hit, move down to decrease
throat hit.
