Nothing special here, just showing folks some smaller parts that work for HV. This is my stealth5 with depressed atty, stripped down bare essentials. It hides perfectly in my fist, I don't like people seeing too much of my device in public, doesn't take up much pocket real estate either. Please excuse the mess, this thing has been reworked 3 times and I have shaky hands (it used to have an 18350 and 5v booster but that had poor battery life).

Box: madvapes JM12-IE-BLACK (1.62" x 2.4" x 0.80")
Regulator: Madvapes MV5VREG2
Connector: Madvapes 510CONNAS (510)
batteries: 2 x 16340 protected
Battery contacts: Pirated from Fuji Finepix s5200
Switch: Radioshack 3a button
Depressed atomizer tube: Cap from 901 cartridge with end drilled out
Voltage: 4.97v under load

The sides of the box need to be sanded down to fit protected 16340's, screw posts were also removed.

Important note: The cap for a 901 cart is a bit too tight to allow for good airflow when using it as a 510 depressed atty tube. I had to drill a couple holes in it right above the atty connector for better flow. This could allow leakage into the battery compartment, it hasn't happened to me but I'm not using leaky atty's on it, in theory it can happen. Next time I depress a 510 I'll try to find something a few millimeters wider than a 901 cart cap.

Is there a disadvantage to having the regulator before the switch? I would have wired it after but was moving too quick. The reg is not getting hot unless I fire it.
Yes. It's best have your switch firing the regulator which then fires the atty. As you have it wired the reg is always 'on'. Also seeing as you were interested in batt longevity a regulator with better specs (lower dropout) would have served you better.

From the spec sheet:
Vin = 6.5 V to 7.0 V
What that means is less battery capacity is available. Shorter run times, more charging. Once your batteries get to about 6.5 - 6V you will no longer be vaping at 5.

The TI UCC383 or 283-5 will still provide 5V @ a Vin of 5.45V

Linear Regulators - Single Channel LDO - UCC383-5 - TI.com

Nice size on the mod, very cool.

Thanks a lot for the info Willy! Makes sense, I will definitely try that one out.

Looks really good, US. I like a stealthy mod.
Just one question, when you had the 18350 & a booster in it, what were the specs on the capacitors you used?
I used the same ones in Nuck's Fistpack tutorial. Digi-Key - 495-1529-1-ND (Manufacturer - B45197A2107K409) (not the actual image there) It vaped great for about 5hrs, then would whine for a few drags followed by the battery shutting down at ~3.6v. I expected to get more time out of it, I believe the battery was overstressed but am not an electronics wizard by any means, maybe 1200mah doesn't do as much as I thought, or maybe the rating is wrong. I liked the booster much better on an 18650.

poland, and the brassy lands of google
I'm pretty sure my 1st box was that same box with a 14500 and a 5ml bottle, but a crappy stubby sample bottle. Also mine had the lip split between the two halves, making it hard to shut straight. This puts the space to much better use and looks much nicer. Was trying to look at your sig pics just last night to see if that was a 18350 boosted :) Thanks for asking sci! Another reason to really only boost a 18650...

I've got an 18500 boosted with those caps. It does the same thing. I'm going to redo this box but I'm going to use different caps with a higher voltage rating, 100uf 50v, & see if that makes a difference. I can easily make an adapter & use an 18350 in the same box, so I'll see what kind of duration I get out of it also.
I used 100uf 16v caps in another mod & it doesn't last near as long as it should. I haven't found an exact reason why the higher voltage caps should work better, but they seem to.
1200 mAh should get the average person through a day easily.

Right on, be sure to let me know how it goes. I've got 2 18350's sitting here now and don't really have a reason to double them up and resistor them down when 2 16340's seem to be meeting my schedule just fine. Wish they were a little shorter so I could use them in this box, they'll fit vertically but I'd have to raise my atty back up and reconfig the whole thing for the 4th time.

Asdaq, thanks for looking. I thought it would be smarter to boost one batt but it just didn't cut it.

Funny you should say that. I have two boosted single 14500 boxes. The first I made I used 100uf 35v caps and it vapes all day. The second one I made for my brother using 100uf 16v caps and he has been complaining that his doesn't last long. Was trying to figure out what might be wrong with his.
