The exact one you are talking about is the one that I went with. It's great. I fit 5 liters of nic in there in 50 ml amber bottles with a bit of space to spare.

You will be hard pressed to find one that is a better fit, trust me I looked around a lot before I pulled the trigger.

There are medical laboratory freezers that would work well, but they are much more expensive from what I've seen. Here is a pic if you are curious. Keep in mind that is just the freezer with bottles in there. Minus about 10 bottles from that pic and that is the 5 liters of nic.

I bought a Haier HUM013EA 1.3 cu ft mini freezer last year for a couple few reasons: It was the smallest one I could locate and in my case space is at a premium. It's a front door - as opposed to a top door freezer. I have had very good results with Haier air conditioners.

Unfortunately it looks like it has been discontinued but you may still locate one. The smallest offering in the current Haier line now is a 3.5 cu ft top door model.

You can get freezers through Target on line too. If you have a Red Card that would be 5% off plus free shipping.

This was the hardest part in finding one specifically for nic, size friendly. As I said, there are others that are used in medical laboratories but are quite pricey. The Whynter 1.1 was the best one I could find to fit the bill and not crazy pricey.

Much talk but no links. :) Is this it?

And I suppose it would get a 5 star rating were it not for amazon reviewers that can't conceptualize volume. Should you be one of those types 1.1 cubic feet ain't a lot:
  • Freezer internal dimensions: 14" W x 13" D x 13.75" H
  • Product external dimensions: 18.75" W x 17.75" D x 19.5"

I'm loving the idea of a 3.5cu more and more. Would fit nicely under my mixing desk and keep the wife off my back about using our spare refrigerator/freezer which she likes to keep stocked with frozen TV dinners so she don't have to cook:) I have 7 liters right now I store in it and want to increase that to 10.

Top-loading vs. side-door freezers

I suspect top-loading (or chest) freezers will prove to be marginally better for long-term nic storage than the side-door models.

Cold air is more dense and thus heavier than room-temperature air.

Therefore, when you open the door on a side-door freezer, all the cold air in the freezer falls out onto the floor and the room-temp air rushes in to replace it. The freezer then takes some time to chill the warm air that's now in the freezer.

By contrast, top-loaders don't lose much, if any, cold air when they're opened. The cold air stays in the freezer like water in a bucket, with only a minor amount of mixing at the boundary.

If you're using a side-door freezer solely for storing nic and only open the door a few times per year, there's probably little advantage to a top-loader over a side-door freezer. But if you're storing nic in a multi-use side-door freezer, such as a standard kitchen refrigerator/freezer combo, then the outsides of the nic bottles get warmed to close to room temperature at least several times per day.

Frequently when I open my refrigerator door, the compressor kicks in to cool the newly-introduced room-temp air. But when I open my top-load freezer, the compressor almost never fires up.

Something to consider in your choice of freezers . . .

There are several brands with similar specs and prices. This is the one I got. Does the job for me. It has one special feature, it can be set to either fridge or freezer temp. The Avanti comes in several sizes. It doesn't have a built in lock, but you can always install a hasp and padlock if you need to.

I looked around but never saw any that went to -15F.

What brand/model freezer do you have?
Currently ( a year or more past now) my cold storage unit is -22.2 degree Fahrenheit = -30.11 degree Celsius.
Holiday WUF5 (from Lowe's, Made in CANADA) 4.7 Cu.Ft, 347 Annual Consumption in (KWH)
I'm rechecking the temperature now. 0.7 and still falling...
