I'm wondering what kind of small variable volt mods there are ? I'm looking for one that is pocket friendly. I was thinking that I had seen one that used a single 14500 and a booster circuit but I don't remember where. So bring on the suggestions ? FWIW I don't own a provari but I have tried a friends and while it is an awesome device it is a bit large to be carried around all day IMO.

I'm interested in the one from madvapes but it doesn't list the amp rating of the switch so I'm not sure how high i could the voltage on dual coils before it gave. The switching regulator offered in the one linked above seems like a definite upgrade as compared to a linear one. I know the switching regulators are becoming more popular often sold under names such as ever cool and vari cool. Does anyone know how big a difference the switching regulator makes ? In short is the device i linked above worth the extra $20 it cost compared to the one offered at madvapes or the extra $10 than the other VV on smoktek's own site ?

I own 2 provaris my top favorite mods.Now for a small vv i got a krimson kustoms this guy builds a great small vv box with evercool tech for longer battery life.He will build to your specs i got a blue box and had him put 3 notches in it telling me 3.7,4.5,and 5volt points.I like this small box verry much it's built great and it will run dc cartos even the lr at what ever volts you want.Do a search on here many happy folks with James.
i have this one personally that i got from the classifieds and i really like it. i havent tried the madvapes one, but from what i can tell, i like this one alot more because the button is better, and the wheel to turn the voltage up and down is inside the box, as opposed to on the outside from the madvapes one. the voltage can go really high on the smoktek one, past 6v if needed. great little vv box
make sure you get one of those digital voltage reader things, because if you turn the wheel even slightly, it can turn up a lot.
I got the one from mad vaps it's great it goes from 0-7 volts and not being marked I though it would be a problem but it's not you just turn it up a very very little at a time until you hit that sweet spot not a problem. On the smoke tek one it seems to me it would be a pain in the--- to take the back off every time you want to up or lower the voltage imao.
The Big Brother from Kens Box Mods is about the smallest AA variable box I know of, if you go for it get the varicool version as it uses a better regulator for better battery life.
Ken also has the Little Sister which is built in a tiny AAA box and also available in the varicool version but to be honest 10440 batteries aren't going to last that long no matter how efficient the regulator is, I'd recommend the Big Brother. Those are the smallest I know of.

We do see some of those in production with bigger batteries like the Provari but in the smaller sizes a single small battery like a 14500 would be quite limited with the current draw and even voltage depending on what ohm carto/atty is being used with it and battery life to be blunt would most likely suck.

Very true but these vv box from mad vaps have 2 14500 bats and all the power you want, I have not had any problems with any cart granted I only use carts so I don't know how this vv preforms on anything else and for 35.00 to me its not a bad deal, you either love it or hate it.
The amp rating can be the same between a switching or linear, just depends on which regulator is used. The biggest difference is efficiency and often price. Switching regulators are more efficient which means better battery life in between charges and being more efficient they don't waste as much energy as heat which is why you see the all the names with "cool" applied when referring to them, linear can get quite warm at times.
The only downside that a switching regulator could possibly have for some is most only go up to 5.5 or 6v while most linear regulators can go a little higher if the regulator or batteries can provide the amperage but I have no desire to take it above that so it doesn't make a difference to me.
For me personally the cost difference is well worth it for the extended battery life alone.
