Now this is great news! I have the eGo T Mod (actually hubby and I both do..plus a spare control head). I'm going to look into this for sure! I bet the power head should work, since the 18650s and the 18350s are the same diameter!! Woot! Great timing, too!
Hi Fourthrok: I got mine yesterday. I purchased the 18350 tube and the upgrade head from Stormy's Vapor Cellar.
By the way, good vendor, fast shipping and good prices. Anyway, the upgrade head is listed on Stormy's site as being for use with either the 18650 or 18350 battery tube. Heavens Gifts lists the upgrade head as being specifically for the 18650 tube and even states that its impossible to use it with the 18350 tube. They sell a 510 style head that they list as being for the 18350 tube.
It appears that the 510 style head that Heavens Gifts sells as for use with the 18350 tube has a longer battery connection center pin than the regular upgrade head I purchased (and most people will have now). Looking at the tube, it came with a plastic cap on the inside of the tube. It looks like the new longer battery connection pin then sticks through the small hole in this plastic cap to make connection to the battery. The shorter pin on the regular upgrade head isn't long enough to do this. Here's what's strange. The plastic cap on the inside of the tube simply pushes out to remove it. With the cap removed the old style heads works perfectly. There is a rim on the inside of the tube that prevents the battery from pushing up too far, so even with the plastic cap removed, there is no additional pressure being placed on the head unit. The head unit does not ride on top of the battery with the plastic cap removed, the battery connection pin is the only thing that makes contact with the battery, this is true even with the flat top batteries I'm using. The ridge on the inside of the tube acts as a stop to prevent the battery from pushing too far up and actually touching the underside of the head.
It doesn't look to me like removing this inside plastic cap and using the old upgrade head adds any safety issues, since the ridge on the inside of the tube is the battery stop and the bottom of the head is made of non-conductive plastic with the battery connect pin itself is the only conductive material in contact or able to make contact with the battery. Like I said, it works great this way.
I really can't see a reason why joye designed it with the plastic cap in it, other than to cause the need to purchase the new head with the longer center battery pin. I have attached some pictures below and I'd like your opinions on this. Thanks!
PS: This makes a really cool stealth mod. Short and fat. I love that it uses the 18350 batteries, makes it very compact. The unregulated mod of the upgrade head lets it start out at 4.2v (it goes down as the battery charge does) so it hits really well with one of my vivi nova tanks using a 1.8 ohm head. Thanks!
