I'm actually starting this thread for the benefit of newcomers to vaping. While I'm not really a veteran as I've just passed the 8 week mark, I was a heavy (2 PAD) smoker and made the switch to vaping immediately. I have also spent WAY to much money on my journey and this thread would have saved me much time, money, and frustration.

First, vaping will never duplicate the taste or effects of actual smoking - it's a physical impossibility as there is no combustion. Most new folks come here and ask "What is exactly the same as _______". The answer is none. This isn't as terrible as it sounds though as within as little as 3-4 days after you stop smoking your sense of smell and taste will come back and you will soon find a flavor you like.

Second, start with a high enough nicotine level. Many folks start with what some vendors call "full flavor" which is 18mg or 1.8% - this is pretty low for someone trying to quit. I started on 36mg and I needed it to overcome cigarettes. I always recommend at least 24mg to start and if you are a heavy smoker, go to 36mg. You can always go down by by "cutting" the juice - you can't go up easily.

Third, no cigarette sized device really has the power most folks find they really need - another physical impossibility with today's battery technology. I'd bet 90% of us started with a cig sized device as that's what we "had" to have and I'd also bet 90% of us upgraded within a few weeks or a month to a more powerful device - I know I did. The $50 you spent on the cig sized kit is gone and now you need to spend at least another $50 to upgrade. Not as bad as it seems as your first kit can serve as a backup or you can actually use it to help someone else change their life. I gave away my Volt kit to a new person here on ECF - felt good to do it.

Anyway, on to a kit I think really is the smallest "real" e-cig kit:

A 650 mah KGO kit.

Most folks will see the KGO recommended a lot as it's a great entry level PV. Also, 99.9% of the time the 1100 mah kit is recommended. The 1100 mah batteries are near 4" long and it isn't the most pocket friendly. The 650 mah battery is only 2 3/4" long and even with a clearomizer it still makes the smallest "real" e-cig IMHO. I carry this every day to work and I just swap batteries at lunch time so I'm always ready to go.

Lastly, the atty/cartridge system that comes with many eGo/KGO kits is fairly useless. While the atty's are handy to test juices, they aren't a hassle free "vape n go" system. Get a kit with quality cartomizers or clearomizers as they do actually work.

All of this is from my own personal experience and the tons of $$$ I've spent in 2 months. YMMV.

Here's the exact kit I'm describing. They are available a lot of places, this is just an example from a reliable and respected vendor:

You can choose either the 650 or the 1100 batteries. I use the 650s as they are very compact and easy to carry...

I agree on the 650 mAh stuff. On the left a Riva (I think) 650 with a normal carto and cone, on the right a regular disposable ecig. Riva is 4.24 inch/10.8 cm, the disposable measures 4.14 inch/10.5 cm:

Had I found this forum previously that is the kit I would have ordered. I have learned so much from here through lurking and I appreciate all the info I picked up. Currently I am using a clearomizer on a v2 battery. Im satisfied for now BUT for starters I wouldn't have chosen an 808 threading. My hubby is satisfied with his Blu as is. God bless him not enough vape for me. Once again thanks to all for the info!! Still looking for my flavor tho. I loved a few drops of cinnamon and then found out it isn't compatible with the clearomizer.:( Working on vaping 100% of the time soon.

P.S. Thank you NGIB for your info!

I'm with you. That's just what I carry everyday as well, a 650 mah Riva. I don't even have to swap out my batteries at lunch (though I do keep an extra just in case). The smaller size of the 650 mah are much more convenient to hold and carry, imo.

However, that pistol (1911?) in your avatar pic seems a little bulky for carrying purposes. :p

I'm still new at this, but I opted for the 1100mah KGO. The KGO is only 1/2" longer than the Riva in the pic and has almost twice the vaping time. This is all personal opinion, of course, but the tradeoff is worth it to me.

I actually have an SD key ring myself. It's an auto battery and is quite easy to kill if you overfill a carto - ask me how I know.

I intentionally used e-cig versus PV as many newbies do not know what a PV is and they probably searched "e-cig" to find this forum - I don't like the term e-cig either...

My usual vape is a Buzz Pro, but I always carry an SD topped by a Smok Tek shorty carto in my pants pocket. Thanks for the warning about the auto batt-- I've used manuals for so long I forgot about the "death by juice" factor. I put VG based liquid in it, and it's stayed put so far.

How's the muzzle flip on that Long Slide 1911? I've never fired one.

Not a lot different from a 5" gun, balance is different though. Bowling pins are heavy and I looked for every edge I could get - like a tad more velocity from the longer barrel...

Katya just brought a smile to me face. Even tho there is very complex APV in my hand there is a little 20$ keyring hanging from a lanyard around my neck.

Sorry but you can't buy one like what's in my hand, you have to build it yourself.
But here are the plans

Thanks for the demo. A very informative link. I will have to give it a try with my own changes. Not many as this is almost perfect, just a different shape for fun.

That's my "bowling pin" 1911 with 6" barrel, I carry a Colt Defender 3" 1911...
Great piece. I shoot a Springfield Match 1911 (sort of like a Gold Cup) in 9mm. I know, 1911's only count in 45acp but the recoil was bothering my elbow. My carry piece is a Browning High Power with a 4" barrel
