I'm so excited. We got our 510s in last night, and immediately chucked out the analogs. I do have some observations, and I'm hoping y'all can tell me if they're normal, abnormal, or because of the juice.

Juice- RY1. YuCK!! Yuck, yuck. Hate it. It tastes like antifreeze and smells like old socks. I'm pretty sure this is a juice issue.

We also got a bottle of Kent, and while it's certainly better than the RY1, there's still a lot of sickly sweetness to it? And an almost spicy aftertaste. I don't know, maybe I'm nuts because I see lots of reviews saying that Kent is the best thing since sliced bread and it's not sweet at all. So why is mine kind of ew? It's what I'm using now, but I'd still like something that's got more of a smoky taste. I have sweet juices on order if that's what I'm in the mood for :)

The smell- there is a DEFINITE smell. It's not obnoxious, but it's there. It's a sweet and kind of tobacco-y smell?? I thought that there would be zero aroma. The kids said it stinks :( And yes, I did blow out the atomizer before using the first time. Does it maybe still have something in it? I've been vaping it since about 6pm yesterday and it's still smelly.

We absolutely like it so far- haven't had an analog since the ride home from work yesterday, and while there HAS been a craving or two, I think it's more of an adjustment craving. I'm really pleased. I think I just need to find the right juice.

Finding a liquid you love is an adventure! I wouldn't call vapor of liquids a bad smell, just different depending on what it is.

I've got loads of stuff that sounded good when I was first starting... but yuck!! I have a hard time finding decent liquid that is made in China these days anyway. It is pretty hit and miss.

Best bet? Try out Tasty Vapor (where you can customize your liquid). Nothing but great reviews for his liquids, and they're unbelievably inexpensive (you buy nicotine liquid and a 120ml (4oz) "Doubler" that is zero nicotine to mix to the strength you want). Geoff's Tobacco, Atomic Fireball and Mocha get raves (I also have his banana nut bread, chocolate/caramel/pecan and menthol along with some others that all are good!)

VaporTalk Dulcis (caramel tobacco) and Mentha (strong menthol) have also been good as well as USA made VG Vaper's Choice liquids from ecigsupply.com (waffle and mocha mint coffee) are yummy.

Put away anything you don't think you like now... try again in a few months. Can't tell you how many times I've read that something that tasted 'bad' to someone was a slice of heaven when they tried it again later. Been there, done that!

I can't believe it smells. Everybody I have been vaping around can't smell hardly anything. The best tasting ones I have found are camel, marlboro and vanilla. None of these are sweet. Sometimes it depends which brand of eliquid you buy. I have numerous one from different companies but right now the only ones I use are from Totally Wicked USA. They cost a little more but to me it well worth it.

Drink more water. I actually got dehydrated the first couple of days and forced myself to drink more. That helps a LOT while you're getting used to it. For me, the first three days all the juice tasted like I was vaping drain cleaner... so give yourself some time to adjust. Your taste will drastically change over the next couple of weeks. I've never tried RY1, but RY4 is heaven!

Most of us experience a sore throat when we first start vaping. Be sure to drink plenty of water for the first few weeks (vapor is drying). It should go away in a few days. Do keep drinking liquids as much as possible for a while.

Coughing a bit is normal as well for most who have been smoking a while. I coughed up phlegm for about 2 weeks. After that no cough or production.

If after 2 weeks you find you are still having problems or your throat/cough symptoms increase, you may want to look into VG, but at this juncture it is too early to believe that it is an allergy to PG.

Here is a thread with some of the common symptoms that may address some of your concerns.

I may have to switch to VG :( After my last break, I noticed that my throat was really hurting, and I'd started to cough :(
I need this to work. I don't want to go back to tobacco!

I suggest you try tasty vapors, I had problems with the e-liquid at first too and thought it was because of PG but found out later that it was the juice I had.

Mrs T's e-juice gets great reviews here too but I personally havent tried it yet. Maybe someone else with more juice experiance can help you out here some more.

Also make sure you dont let your atty get dry.

Yep, it does sound like a PG thing. Happened to me. Now I do not buy flavored juices, I make all mine DIY with VG, high-nic VG unflavored juice, a little vodka to thin, and flavor. Since I started VG juices, the scratchy throat/achy head and lungs thing went away, never to return...unless I happen to find a flavor that irritates, which can happen.

Dakang does have a rep for nasty smell and taste to some. Some love it. But you got tobacco flavors, which are flavored with tobacco extract, so there should be a tobacco smell to them. I think the typical Dakang taste and smell is due to their nic extraction process, which is cruder than some. Unflavored Dakang nic juice is yellow-orange in color, which means even without flavors added it has significant extracts other than nic in it.

The VG-only thing is easy to solve, many vendors sell VG flavored juices, like Cignot, and its easier to buy VG in stores than PG anyway. Some vendors, like VTvapor, refuse to have any PG in their juices because many people have reactions like you had. Not saying this IS what you have, but it does sound like it, and its easy to fix. BTW, if you like a good sweet tobacco flavor, Vermont Maple from VTvapor is excellent!! Its a maple flavored tobacco based VG juice. Same for their vanilla. Those are the only tobacco flavors I have liked, including other VG-only ones. I prefer the sweet chocolate/toffee/coffee/vanilla flavors in general.

Sounds to me like you don't like Dakang (common), and your body doesn't like PG (also common). And I totally agree with Helen, vaping flavors is a journey unto itself. Have fun with it!!

Update: Day 4, no tobacco. The ickiness has worn off, and my ches no longer hurts. i guess it was a transitional thing. And clove juice is the tastiest thing ever :p

I get all my juice from RMV and its all been good, the problem is when I first started I didn't know what I would like so I would only get a couple of 10ml to try. I does take you time to decide what you like. You can pick any juice and hear 100 different opinions on it so you'll have to find what's right for you. Also, you have to wrap your mind around the fact that this will not be tasting the same as smoking no matter what the 'tobacco' flavor says, imo.
good luck, happy vapeing
