Howdy, I haven't started vaping but after reading everything here decided to. Recently found out my wife:nun: is pregnant and have always said I'd quit when I had a child, and being a heavy smoker and a being a person who has a really hard time kicking any kind of habits be them physical or mental I realize vaping is probably the only solution that will minimize irritability (which I foresee being a dangerous combination with my wife's over-reactive hormones otherwise), so am determined to make this work even if it doesn't at first, especially since it means I don't have to quit it as I don't want to quit smoking but know I need to.:smokie:

That being said, my wife has asthma and usually can't stand be in a disco/fog machine mist for more then a few seconds. I run a 3D animation company from home and my first reaction to reading about vaping was ":shock:OMG I can smoke at the computer again :matrix::vapor:!!!" So what I'm wondering is if I'll be able to because of my wife's asthma combined with her now oversensitive nose due to pregnancy since my main workstation is in our living room (which isn't that big) and she frequents it.

So long as she in not looking over your shoulder, she should be fine. The vapor dissipates rapidly..

Some of the base liquids in e-liquid are used in nebulizers for treating asthma. The sensitivity to fog machines could just be the foul odor that's produced. My fiancee's son is a DJ and he throws house parties here, sometimes. The fog machine can be overwhelming to me lol. Fortunately the vapor from e-cigs goes away very quickly.

Congrats on your expectation and kudos for making the switch in light of your kid's future and your wife's comfort.

Stock up on pickles lol!

Fwiw, when I visit my parents, both of whom are pretty sensitive to smell, they don't mind if we vape in the house. If there is a particular smell they find offensive (which happened once, when we were in very close proximity), I just switch to a different flavor. So far, it doesn't seem to bother them.

Just my opinion here may be best to check in with a couple doctors as some may be bias while others open-minded and willing to look into vaping.

This is a very ymmv issue. Everyone reacts a bit differently. It may bother your wife, or it may not bother her at all. I think it is very difficult to say until the idea becomes an actuality. For me personally, I had mild asthma myself. However I think it was smoking induced because since I've started vaping I don't wheeze anymore and can actually run! Granted I've never been a runner and huff and puff I'm running longer non stop then I ever have before in my life.

The best way to make switching from smoking to vaping less stressful is seeing your e-cigg as something positive, fun, a new hobby, and reinforcing the negativity associated with smoking smelly, dirty, causes cancer. At least I think that really helped me make the switch, I also wanted to quit quite some time before discovering budget friendly PVs actually existed. Don't beat yourself up if you smoke while you vape. Some people make the switch the same day others it may take a month or longer. Everyone is a little different, every cigarette avoided by using your PV is a victory until you can give smokes up completely.

Best of luck getting the hang of everything, welcome to ECF! and Congratulations on being a Daddy!

Try less VG. I noticed it and several people in the health section that run said the same thing regarding VG & running. Less VG or all PG juice and that heavy feeling in your lungs when you run goes away.

Congratulations on the new addition to your family. This is the very best thing you can do for your child other than cold turkey and since that seems it would cause more trouble than it would be worth just vape on.

Just had a baby 9 weeks ago and unfortunately smoked during pregnancy but cut down a great deal. All 3 of my pregnancies. Now that I've started e cigs 10 days ago haven't picked up a cig yet!! Better later than never. One piece of advice I'd get something bigger than those little cigarette look-a-likes. I'm using the EGO-T which I love. Also just ordered a KGo which is currently charging for my first use so I haven't tried it yet but I've heard it's better than the EGO. Also a bit cheaper. My husband also quit right along with me and we've both been long time smokers. Good luck. Pm me if you have any questions.

My husband is non smoker, non vaper. He says he can't smell all but one of my flavors. And then its only for a brief second, if he is right beside me. It was a desert flavor. I rely on the fact no one can smell it. I rely on the fact the vapor disappears very quickly. Why? because now I vape at my desk - I work in a law firm - and I don't want to get caught :) Not sure what they'd say - but my mod box looks very similar to a one hitter - well its way prettier - hand made, inlaid wood (from Mom and Pop Vapor Shop). One day, one of the attorneys came over by my desk and says - it smell like maple syrup! I had just exhaled my five layer bar flavor seconds before he came to my desk - (insert innocent eyes here). So I save that flavor for home. ALL other flavors have not been noticed. So there ya go!

I have had people smell it if they were standing in front of me when I exhale. My wife smelled it when one of my Smokymizers started to go out. Other than that the only time there is a lingering fog is when I am in my car with windows rolled up. I never smoked in my car but vaping does leave a film on the winshield of my car.

Congrats on the baby and on your new adventure! I have a friend that has bad asthma and started vaping at the same time I did (4 months ago). She's been able to drop half of her asthma medications so hopefully it won't bother your wife. As for smell, I only have a couple that anyone has ever noticed and that was just to say how good they smelled.

Best of luck!

Some people complain that the smell of the vapor bothers their asthma. There is always a backlash on this forum of vapers who say that the complainant must be lying -- but, I've heard of it happening often enough, and I know that asthmatics can have an attack just from the steam in their showers.

My advice is to communicate with your wife. Tell her about the e-cig and be prepared to defend it (learn about it). Try different flavors out and see if any of them bother her - if they do then don't vape that flavor inside. Assure her that there is nothing harmful in the exhaled cloud or she'll worry about the baby. Tell her that you did promise to quit smoking... and there's no smoke produced here, so.... technically... you won't be smoking anymore. Hopefully, she'll take pity on you.

BTW: should have never promised that to begin with.

Good luck!
