Smok Alien

I love my G-Priv and decided to go with an eVic VTC Dual instead of the Alien. Cool box with two different battery cases for 1 or 2 18650's and up to 75 or 150w. Weird thing? It won't fire over 100w! The folks at the shop tried and it is some weird issue with capped amperage. 20a, I think.

Back it went and my new Alien/BB will be here tomorrow.

Looks like I now have all 3 of the TFV8 tanks now. Not a problem as I think they are great tanks.

mmhh yeah but didnt seem anyone has a working solution.. kinda sucks that the firmware update pretty much destroyed the mod for half of its uses.

it had such a smooth tc regulation on 1.2.1 on my staggered fused claptons in my rdas.. i could tell when they ran low on juice and vape the rayon bone dry. now i just get weird strange pulses and getting a proper hit is pretty much just a cointoss at best...

such a great mod and the newest firmware destroys it? any help welcome... i doubt smok is gonna do anything with their last firmware version beeing from september...

Roll it back to 1.2.1 until Smok works on a fix, which with Chinese New Year on a horizon, will be awhile.

Same way you installed most recent - see if you can get your hands on 1.2.1 (Smok website or google); erase existing update and reinstall older.

Djlsb Vapes has a pretty good video on how to do the update "manually".

Most got it by copying it from a new mod prior to updating. You have to see if someone posted that copy somewhere in the cloud.

I just got one myself over the holiday. I am loving it. I mostly use mechanical devices. But I am really liking this setup, I'm using the RBA deck on the baby beast. This has been my goto since I got it. I don't have any complaints, just yet. I guess I've been using it for about a week.

Same here. I almost always use mechs but just recently picked up an Alien kit and the mod is great. Smaller than my G-Priv and not too heavy. I am using a Big Baby Beast with it @120w and it is working perfectly.

Haven't bothered with the Baby Beast yet as I have the BBB and a Cloud Beast as well.

It is rare for me to use a regulated mod as I really enjoy mech's, however I have a bit of a soft spot for the Alien.

No issues at all on mine. No firmware glitches of any kind, no paint issues, no button issues and the fit and finish is spot on. And, it looks awesome with my Recoil RDA...

I decided to look back and found I got mine mid-October. Since that time it's had a good workout, and is more and more my throw in the pocket out and about choice. Works fine in TC on 316 for me (with the correct TCR) and no scratch of the screen despite no screen protector (I got a version without it) and no paint issues at all. Like any of these mods, QC is clearly an ongoing issue with the paint failing on some users, but overall, I'm every happy with it. More than I really expected to be. Smok has gone up in my opinion with its recent releases, both tanks and mods.

Sorry, no clue. I don't pay attention to it. It is in rotation, so it's not an ADV with big volumes through it. then again, I only vape about 5 ml a day. Rough estimate, maybe 100-125 ml through it? Not a ton of use, but still enough to feel confident I can rely on it.

I have a Herakles Plus with factory 316L coils I tried on the Alien and seemed to come up short for me. Just guessing you are building your SS coils, but wondering what TCR you are using and if that would/should work for me?

Actually I'm using the Tobeco 0.3 ohm notch coil with a TCR of 92. I know, not what you'd expect. I honestly thought the coil would toss me out to wattage, but it was fine. Just for yuks I threw on a new Merlin build 316L 28G parallel at 0.5 ohm, and compared to my VT75, needed 430F to match the 460F I was using on the DNA board. Is it as smooth as the VT75? No. But it's OK. With that Tobeco Super tank and coil it's a decent vape

So I am having the issue with SS316L not doing TC well. I tried diff tcr values from 0.00086-0.00105 and it is like the others, either very weak or way to hot. Funny thing I noticed is it was set to 80w max and I saw it fire at 87w a couple times. As per usual specs are Griffen 25 with dual coil dual fused claptons (double 28g core with 30g wrap) reading at 0.24ohm on the alien using married LG HG2s.

Now here is the fun part. I was trying to check the version number to see if it needed to be updated on the firmware and the site lists 1.2.2 as the latest but my alien says it has 1.2.8. I haven't seen that anywhere else, and while I did buy it from a reputable B&M near home, they aren't that good as to have firmware that ain't out yet.

Just wondering if anyone else has seen or heard of this. I bought the mod as a 2 batt backup mod while I waited for my RX 2/3 to ship after the RX200 just died. I keep a single married pair around for my old Sig 150 but since it lacked TC I really wanted a backup mod that has it since I use nothing else anymore.

I was fighting with TC on the alien for 2 days before I gave up and just stuck with VW mode. My RX 2/3 got here and I was like awe yeah thats what smooth TC is supposed to be like. But since I need the mod as a backup for when the RX dies I really wanna get the TC on my alien working. And I have kinda fallen for the look and feel of the mod and I love the screen, so if I get the Alien TC working it may become a rotation instead of backup.

So any help or thoughts on what I should do about the firmware would be appreciated. I am worried that 1.2.8 is wrong and it is a wierd abberation, but not sure if I should load on 1.2.2 as that seems to be the cause of the bad SS316L TC.

I have never seen a 1.2.8 firmware version. 1.2.2 is the latest posted. There are posts here about another firmware version that's unexplained. I'd like to say just go with the 1.2.2, but as your report some folks don't like in TC. OTOH, it's not really working well in TC anyway, there's not much you can lose.

Ok, I'm hoping one of you wonderful people can point me in the right direction. I've skimmed through the thread and all I'm looking for is a replacement freakin' button. I got startled, I dropped my alien. The screen cover thing popped off and I lost one of my front buttons. Thankfully, the mod works fine, (it fell on concrete, I thought it was done for) but I'm missing that stupid button! If it matters, it's the +... Any idea on how/where to get another? I've left a message with Smok support but I'm not holding my breath on that one. Help?

Ok, that really sucks. Given the shape and size of the button, you'll probably find Smok as the only source, and I have no clue if they will send or sell you a replacement. Maybe someone else around here might know another solution.
