After you select ss-tc the next screen is the tcr set.
You can't skip it.
Anyway tc is non functional on mine,no matter the tcr watts or temp.
Either i get a 5w type of vape or a 150w one. Each draw is different.
I hope it is a firmware issue.

Your definitely not alone, a lot of us are having the same issue with SS316L builds. Funny thing is I can get great results with my SS304 builds with the tcr set to 105.
I have pretty much stopped using the alien with SS316L TC, it is aggravating. Weird thing is with my H-priv and Treebox plus, don't get me wrong, there not great with SS316L TC but they also don't pulse or are as inconsistent as the Alien.
This will probably be my last smok mod. I love using the Alien in power mode but the TC just sucks. Maybe I am just spoiled with Hohmtech and DNA mods which are the best TC mods by a long shot.

Thats test was on 1.2.1 though, several having issues on the newer fw.
Someone had a similar problem a few pages back and was able to swap for an older fw version and has been good.
Good thing I decided to not get an Alien during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales.

I just ordered 100' of SS316L a couple days ago, then I find this. Crap.
Oh well. I've still got 2 PICO'S to use it on if the Alien underperforms. Still got a DNA or 2 on my wishlist is well so I guess all is not lost.

Update on my firing pause or hesitation issue.
I found that if I build coils at or higher than 0.5ohms that issue goes away.
I tried this on my Kayfun v5 0.6ohm at 450F 35W as well as my Engine 0.51ohm at 420F at 50w

The two I ordered just before black Friday came with fw 1.2.1 and work fine in ss tc but I use power. Seems to be 1.2.2 with the issue, supposedly smok is working on a new version.
Weird. I have it with 1.2.2, and with 316L set at a TCR of 92 I have reasonable performance. Hasn't bounced me out of TC, and provided a pretty smooth vape. Not my first choice for a TC mod, but maybe I just got lucky with my box.
Maybe it is more hardware than firmware but as I don't use tc much I never upgraded. On 1.2.1 my standard tcr ss316l was fine. Who knows, I guess I should be glad mine is working fine and not tinker with it lol.
On another note I had some carbon fiber vinyl and wrapped nearly all of my alien on arrival. One of the only spots I didn't wrap is the small section where the battery vents are. Long story short the paint is coming off in that area now. 
I've been able to get a smooth and consistent TC vape with both 304 aand 316L. The issue that I have is that I need to turn it up to 540F-560F to get a decently warm vape. Ive tried it with 4 different atties and they all have similar results.
What are your coil specs? wire gauge? coil resistance? type of coil (clapton, alien, standard round, etc)? Vape wattage?
Tobeco SS notch coil 0.3 ohm ? 30 or 40W 440F in a Super tank (got it in blue to get all matchy matchy with the mod). Nice vape.
OT: how do the notch coils compare to the standard 316L round wire plain coils?
More surface area and supposedly faster heating than say Claptons. Personally, I only got them as they were the only Tobeco coil I could find in SS. I wouldn't bother with them on an RTA, as the legs, in my fumbling handling, are really easy to break off. There are other Triton compatible coils in SS I will try as well with this tank.
Alright so my spool of 28g 316L came today and I decided to put a .3 ohm dual coil build on my Cloud Beast to give TC a shot. Put it on the Alien when I suddenly realized: "Crap! I have no idea how to set this up!"
So can one of you explain how to set up TC on the Alien. I have it in SS mode, and I set the wattage at 35 cause that's where I normally vape. 3 ohms. But once I get to the screen where I choose a setting between .0005 and .002, I have no idea what that is.

Mode-temp-set watts like you would in wattage mode for the coil-tc ss if using stainless steel-then set 0.00092 for ss316l wire.
That is the tcr,it is set i believe at 0.00104 which is for ss304 wire.
And to clarify what these numbers mean, if your coil is 0.3 ohms exactly and made of ss316l, a raise of resistance to 0.30092 ohms (0.3+0.00092 you set) translates to 1 degree celcius raise of temp.
This is how your mod knows the coil's temp,by monitoring the change of resistance.
All wires when heated have higher resistance.
Each type of wire has it's own tcr.
