I've only used the 1.2.2, never thought of waiting to compare. I put a Super tank on it with a Tobeco 0.3 ohm SS notch coil, set it up as 316L/92 (which was sort of a shot in the dark as the coils aren't marked for that on the box) and 30W/470F has been giving me a nice vape on a 70/30 juice.

Yes, if I pop an Engine on with dual SS Claptons, it's not the same as on my DNAs. But that's why they live on those mods, and the Super tank hangs out on the Alien.:)

Thanks mjag. Was well aware of DNA mods being top of the line, but have never heard of Hohm tech. Haven't really been looking to buy a mod in almost a year so there's quite a few mods I'm sure I'm unaware of! Have to check out Hohm Tech, appreciate the suggestion... :)

Seems you guys don't have the xcube ultra but the alien runs the same smok firmware, no? So any issues with the alien would likely occur on the ultra? Definitely have more homework to do figuring out my next box. Really need something that for sure can handle TC wires of all types. I have at least 10 spools of wire I've barely used... Including ss304, ss316l, ss430, titanium A1, and nifethal 52 aka nife52 which has been my favorite so far. Granted I've only been successful vaping in vw/vv mode with SS wire and the Nifethal.

If you want to play with all those flavors of wire, go with a DNA mod or a G2. I would not consider the Alien for that sort of use. For me it's a solid secondary mod, but it sounds like you want more.

Has anyone had paint peeling away from the mod? I just got this 2 weeks ago and the paint is peeling off already. It's verified authentic. Should I return it for warranty exchange or does it add character? The silicon sleeves for the mod don't cover this area.

I had a problem with one of my alien mods that I could not get out of constantly locking it up after resting for a few seconds so here is what I did.
I let the program detect it. Then I hit only the erase button. Hit update. That totally wiped out all programming on that mod.
Leaving the program up on the screen I then connected the working alien mod, clicked connect and then switched the non working one with the working one. Look at where you uploaded the update program for the aprom file and click on the 2nd part where it uploads the config, upload it to the screen. Click the aprom and config file and update.
It totally reset my non working mod and my problem disappeared. Best case senario is that it fixes whatever problem you have. Worst case senario is it stays right where its at.

Right now I am on a chromebook and cannot see the program and don't have my pc available in order to look. Going on memory alone.
I don't see a way to upload the 1.21 version but this could fix whatever is wrong. Worth a try.
Let us know how it goes.

eta: You could try and update the config file alone. You could try this first....
Bring program up on the screen and don't touch where you update the aprom file. Instead of totally wiping your mod-- upload only the config file to your non working mod(next box down from the aprom file). Then in the buttons below where you see the check boxes for aprom, erase, config, etc. click only the config option. See if that doesn't fix the problem with the screen. If that fails then try the above.
:)

Is there an easier way I can contact you? Skype? I understand most of what you're saying but might need a couple pointers

Saw in Djlsb vapes' review that the batteries in the Alien discharge to an uncharacteristically low 2.8v (which is great for battery life). This means that one shouldn't go higher than 110w with 20 amp batteries and 150w with 30 amp batteries, in order to stay within the cdr of the batteries.

2.8v is pretty low.. would this degrade the life of the batteries in any way if we keep discharging them that low? When do you usually swap out the batteries for a recharge?

2.8 v is perfectly fine. The full range of li-ions is from about 2.5 to 4.2v. I don't have the Alien, and most of my mods shut off when the batteries are at about 3.2v. If I had the Alien I'd have no problem using the batteries until the device shut off (which is a safety feature after all).

Mine arrived yesterday. Was happily up and vaping with Ti on it in less than 5min.

Nice display, the 'menu system' might take a bit to get used to. Only lingering question is how does one change the power level in the TC modes? While the seemingly default 30W will work well for most of my builds I'd like to be able to change it.

Fit and finish look good, fits in hand well. I like the 'fire bar'. Would of preferred having the 510 in the center rather than on one end. Otherwise it appears so far to be a winner.

3 clicks, hold on mode. then hold on temp and you should see the wattage. After that material and tcr.

Just curious, for the ppl having issues with 1.2.2 firmware, can I ask how you updated it?
This is what I did, remove batteries and atty/tank, hold fire button, connect to ISP, clicked aprom and selected firmware, clicked on erase all, start, once passed I selected aprom and config, click start.

Overall the vape is OK, but I find that sometimes mid vape it feels like it just stops firing for a split second (cold vape) and gets hot again. I'm used to Joyetech devices where it is a little smoother once it hits the set temp.

I'm using SS316L, KF v5 with single 26 gauge at 0.60ohm, and Engine RTA as well as Cleito both running dual 28 gauge at 0.44ohm

I have been playing with the wattage, mainly lowering it and it seemed to have helped with the issue.

Apparently that choppiness in tc is due to some flaw in the new firmware. It's unlikely that it has anything to do with how you upgraded.

I'm having issues in temp control. Dual 24g ss316l 0.167 ohms produce almost no vapor.
    Watts set to 70.
    Tcr 92 temp 420 up to 500.
Sometimes after 3-4 seconds it will behave as it's in wattage mode.
    Firmware version is 1.2.2.
Did i get a faulty one or am i doing something wrong?
Try the ss preset. According to the Djlsb vapes test it's pretty accurate with the preset.
