Has anyone had this rubbery/plasticky smell coming out from their new Quad Coils?

Been getting quite a bit of that and it lingers on even after 1 tank.

Chucked the OCC in an Ultra Sonic Cleaner and got rid of most of it.

However, flavor seems muted now. Tried it on 2 quad coils and both gave me that plasticky taste.

I had good luck with the pre-made coils and all of a sudden I had two in a row that gave off this disgusting taste.

Btw, did you manage to get rid of the taste?
Nope I tossed the coil and am now waiting for the clapton rba to go on sale.

Both my triple and quad coil had wet sock taste the whole week they lasted before they became horrible burnt wet sock. The single RBA is hands down the most finicky ..... of an RBA I've ever built. Nothing but dry hits no matter the wicking. The whole tank has been retired until the Clapton RBA comes out, where i will give it one more shot before I throw my hands up and sell it.

Uncle, what build do you have in there???
Ive never had any issues with my RBA. Love the damn thing.
I've had the following, all diameters 3mm:

26ga SS316L
24ga SS316L
24ga nichrome80
twisted 26ga SS316L
clapton 24ga nichrome80/36ga nichrome80
most recently 22ga kanthal a1.

I use rayon wick and have done the following wicking procedures:

full tails sitting on deck over juice channel and on deck away from juice channel
45 deg "bowtie cut" on deck over juice channel and on deck away from juice channel
super thinned out tails (45 deg bow tie, then spread horizontal and cut both diagonals off making a straight line of wick) on deck over juice channel, on deck away from juice channel, tucked all tail down in juice channel, tucked half tail in juice channel and half on deck.

Every time I pull the deck to look, the wick has juice, and is the right density. I did see that the 22ga kanthal build I was using had a slight hot leg after 3-4 seconds of firing and the taste of the kanthal was what i was getting. Maybe I'm just doing it all completely wrong. Maybe I got a bad build deck. Maybe my preference on warmth/density of vapor with the overabundant airflow this thing has limits the vacuum that the tank requires. I'm not sure.

To be completely honest, I straight up HATE the kayfun/Lemo/etc style single coil decks. They are the main reason I never had a Kayfun/Lemo more than a few weeks. The Clapton RBA looks really similar to the Subtank Mini RBA deck, which I somehow have zero issues building and wicking on. That is the only reason I'm still hanging onto it.

I kind of want the clapton RBA too, not so much for claptons, but for twisted SS430. At the same time I kind of hate the size of the TFV4, so I should probably just sell it, and pick up the mini.
Mine just sits here. I gave my rba to another cloud machine winner.

Thats why I want the clapton rba. If they did not come out with that I Prob would have gotten rid of the tank.

I've found that if there is not a universal specific "this is how you do it" and it takes me more than a few builds, I'm out. I don't have enough patience to keep fiddling with things over and over. When my wife asks me "What's wrong with that now, how many times are you going to rebuild it?", that's when I know I'm either way, it's likely time to move on and get rid of it.

I'm also not the type to go and spend $5 a coil every week (that's the longest I got out of either of my supplied coils before I couldn't stand the taste). There are numerous other tanks out there that don't act as finicky. I've been eyeballing the Uwell Crown with its nice looking RBA section when the supplied SS coils are dead.

I'm the same way. I found the rba top would mess up the wick when screwing it on. Had enough of that and went back to my stm

I sold my STM a while back when I got my Smok TCT, which is what I'm currently using when I don't drip (primarily when I'm driving is the only time's I'll use a tank). I just don't prefer using the TCT very often since the only temp control device I have is my ipv4. Even at 572deg and 50J, the vape isn't warm enough for me lol, but at least it's not dry hitting like the tfv4 was before I shelved it.

Normal, the Crown coils are the same, just needs a break in period and it will go away, blast some high wattage through them and just vape through it.

I havent ,messed with all the TC yet.
As far as Kanthal, I also use 22g. 6 wraps around a 2.5mm. Are you using the post hols or screw trapping? Sometimes screw trapping can lead to hot legs, especially if the trapped leg is wrapped and makes contact with the leg again.

Most of your wicking sounds good.

I havent used TC with it either. I've tried using both the post holes and screw trapping. The 22ga coil that I witnessed the hot leg on was through the post holes. After seeing the reviews and feedback for the Aromamizer RDTA last night, I have officially retired this tank and will be ordering the other. I might give it another shot when the Clapton RBA is released.

If your top is in any way affecting the wick, you have too much wick to begin with.
I tried with less and it leaked, I got sick of trying to find the sweet spot. Nothing is worth that much hassle. Hell the only time I got it to not screw up while closing or to leak after was when I did more cotton and had it down in the juice channels.

I finally got my black TFV4. It looks a little silly on my VS DNA200 but it vapes like a train with the sextuplet coils. I also got the Ti coils to try TC. Eventually this will go on my cloudmaker and I'll get a mini TFV4 for the VS.
