Since smoke 51 support doesnt respond to questions my goole search sent me here. I am a new e-cig user.

My wife and I just received our Basic USB Starter Kits. The club membership card and instruction manual are absent. So I downloaded the PDF from their site and figured as with most rechargeable it needed an initial charge. I connected one to the USB port in a wall adapter and the other into a USB on the computer. The tips flashed red about 4 times and according to the manual they will turn green when fully charged. This never happened after charging both all night. I also have not heard back from the company, however the batteries do produce smoke when cartridges are attached.

Our first experience is damn these are harsh, making us cough an gag unlike the experience we had in the mall. I am smoking the tobacco flavor and she menthol, same affect for both. My wife is a heavy smoker and even she's coughing, its even leaving us a slight sore throat. I read some people have had this experience the first time but they say it subsides, we will continue to try them today....however I am a bit perturbed about customer service and not knowing when my unit is fully charged.

I don't know from Smoke 51, but I do know that the chargers on e-cigs are notorious liars. Some of mine change to the right color, and some do not ever, so I wouldn;t be too concerned about that.

As to the harshness--it could be the atomizer has primer fluid on there, or is dry. Primer fluid tastes nasty. So does a burning taste from a dry atomizer.

Make sure there is fluid making contact with the atomizer, then try puffing on it without inhaling for a while. You should be able to smell when the primer is gone if that is what it is.

I started with 51 and what your discribing is not normal... I would call them and request a replacement...

I had bad batteries and they did replace the first two sets and admitted they were having trouble with there batteries.. The third set were good.. I moved on to a Janty kiss box but the 51 was a good enough experience that I knew I wanted to try another model ...

I started with a rebranded ecig (a Red Dragon) which is the same model as the Smoke 51. I don't recall it being harsh. I recall very little throat hit, and a lot of vapor. My issue was the batteries don't last very long, and neither did the cartomizers. Plus, I never found a flavor I really liked.

VaporKing/Nebula/KR808d-1s are very similar. A lot of vapor, but with them, I found that there were a number of bad cartomizers that didn't produce any vapor. I understand that the Greencig cart works well with this type, though and is consistent and has more quality control in the making. I quickly moved to the 510/Titan/Yeti type, and love the ability to change flavors and experiment with PG vs. VG.

Good luck. If you can't find info on Smoke 51, try Red Dragon search, or E9 type, Bloog, or Greencig, you'll find different dealers call them different things. Also, Drew at nhaler.com might be able to give you some support. I think he sells them, or did for long enough. He could steer you in the right direction, and is a great guy.

Appreciate the feedback, I am to happy with the smoke 51 folks since there is not reply when you contact them. Many features on their site don't seem to work either. The batteries seem to charge lack the indicators when fully charged (maybe they will someday respond). So at least they are working and I tried changing cartridges from 2 different boxes but we are both experiencing a slightly sore throat. There is nothing smooth about these, I am a pack a day smoker and her even more so its not like we are lightweights.
I was also looking at a product by NJOY that seems to be promising. My wife doesn't want anything that looks like a cigar, pen, or pipe. She likes the illusion of a standard cig where I wouldn't mind tinkering with flavors and stuff. Would any of you recommend the NJOY product or know a similar equivalent that closely resembles a cigarette?

Welcome to the Forum Gotja;

Don't worry about typos. No one here really cares if someone makes a typing mistake.

If you are firm on your e-cig looking like a real cigarette, you want to look at the super minis. Some are white with orange LED's like the real thing. Others are the same size, but come in colors, with different colored LED's.

The most popular here seems to be the 510. The 510's,as I know are black with a blue LED. The super mini's that come in white are the RN4081 - M401/402/403 - DSE103. There might be a few others that slip my mind right now.

Scan the Forum, and checks the remarks on all. Most here will be happy to answer questions.

Cheers;
jd

My first. Got mine last Feb. so I don't know if it's changed any but I got the menthol carts and had no trouble with the flavor. That is until I got one of the cartridge too hot and then it had a really bad burnt taste.
As for the charger, this one lies bad. Just figure out how long it takes to recharge and then go from there.
I also tried reloading the cartridge but never had much luck with it but if you don't plan on going down that road, it's not all that bad.
I finally went to DSE102 and was much happier with it, but different strokes for different folks.

I think I am going to try the DSE103 model and buy a refill kit from Johnson Creek. I see allot of sites selling the DSE103 battery and atomizer but no specifications are mentioned. Are some batteries built better than others, do atomizers have different qualities??

I see DSE103 starter kits containing the same items from $25 to $79, just different packaging and sellers. Guess I will poke around forums on this also.

I bought the smoke 51 starter kit about a week and half ago(I HATE the cartridges they don't last and they burn) I literally had one cart start glowing and burn inside on the first hit out of the box I plan to complain...and am already planning on selling it. I just got my joye 510 today ...amazing, it's like going from a Kia to a Mercedes.

I first purchase smoke 51 thru there free trial offer. I have emailed them repeatly with no answer. I bet the sent you a very high nicotine dose. my package had been opened, I only got 1 cig and charger, no instructions. They have no service at all. I found Arno, thru another forum and here. He comes highly recommend. His prices are half of what the other want and you have fantastic support. Here is his web site. awesomevapor I email him and he answers, and recommends what I need. He is fantastic!! Smoke-51 can keep their crap. You can't send it back because they say you can't send it back without rma order number. And they won't email to give you one. I called my card company and told them what they were doing. They are NOT allowing them to charge anything to my card period. Arno is the was to go, price and service are tops!
Debra Sullivan 4 days vaporing and don't want a real cig... amazing 35 yr. smoker who didn't want to quit!

A buddy went with the Smoke 51 free offer and hasn't gotten it yet (over 7 days now). I don't understand their high prices ($150 for what looks like a KR808D-1 auto battery with cartomizer) and low customer support.

I got a KR808 starter kit with more stuff in it for $40 from another vendor, got it 2 days, one battery was DOA: I emailed them and within 24 hours another battery was on its way, with a pre-paid envelope to send the old one back AND an apology.

The explosion of vendors for these products really require some heavy-duty research to weed out the "quick hit artists" and those trying to cash in without any meaningful support (and this site is probably the best resource I've found).

As for models, I'm very happy with the KR808D-1 (got from electronic-ash.com) with auto-battery: very easy to use for a nooby like myself, plus I found that I can use cartomizers from other vendors that will fit (Vapor4Life's Red Cow is pretty sweet).
