While I've been vaping, the smoke detector has gone off about four times. This has never happened before. I'm not sure if it's just the chemicals, or because of the battery. Because I've been getting this light smell of something, maybe the battery? It's kinda pugent. Maybe that's the cause because it's defective? Like the smell sets off the alarms?

You’re using a mod with “pungent” smelling batteries? I wouldn’t. Have you tried different batteries?

id be more worried about that battery smell than the fire detector atm. I dunno know if they’re related but if they are then I’d REALLY put that mod down and take those batteries out. Maybe it’s the board frying or something but it doesn’t sound like a mod I would put near my face.

seriously be careful_ eveyone keeps warning me of my mod, and all i have is a sticky fire-button.
if by battery you mean the battery itself, then chuck it. if the board is fried, and by battery you mean the mod, that's equally dangerous and no change of battry cells is going to save it.

you sure you haven't seriously burnt the cotton or fried the coils? how's the vape?

someone in this thread explained mentioned different types of smoke detectors have different reactions to vapes
    indoor vaping, mould, condensation, etc.

i'm just guessing that even an alarm that isn't set off by normal vape might react to the smoke content of the vape caused by the burnt wick, maybe by the vapour going thru fried coils as well

Hampton Inn Suites are very forgiving when you set the smoke alarms off in the room. The resorts tied to Epcot are not...... Nothing like getting kicked out of your room for setting the smoke alarm off whilst enjoying a hangover. That was a long silent car ride home with the wife.

It could be because of the coil. It's not producing as much vapor, so maybe is it is that.

I'm smelling a battery smell. I probly need to get a new battery. Yes there's one near me

go and put yourself at their instructions, hoefully theyr'e as hepful as the community generally is. they cleaned and primed my first kit, mixed my first DIY juice, cleaned out my first tank when i came in with leaking issues and fixed my first broken tank.

but FYI, if you don't already know: decrease in flavour, burnt smell, drier vape and leaking are the signs to change your coil, which at the bestest best, with very few brands, light-power usage and no chain vaping manufacturer might last as long as a month. most official recommendations is to change the coil weekly.

BTW what is the gear your using? mod and battery brand. maybe check if other users experienced something similar. there's experts on batteries here as well that might chime in if you provide some more info, maybe a picture.

is the battery wrap clean and unbroken? anything wrong with the way it looks? have you ever dropped it? does it get hot?

Well you know as an auld traivellin' man I've stayed in a lot of places round the world, vaped in them all and never yet managed to set off an alarm in any of them.

Maybe fit a new coil before you check in, only vape unflavoured or mint/menthol, vape the other stuff in the shower or blast away and exhale through some toilet tissue and you should be fine - alternatively pay the premium and book a room with a terrace or balcony....

Without knowing what you're vaping I have no idea what's up. You need to give us more information.

Does your mod get hot when you are vaping? If not I don't see much chance it's a battery problem.

Can you take the battery out and smell it?

Is the bad smell only there when you take a hit or does it linger on afterwards?

By the way, it's not uncommon for smoke detectors to go bad, especially the ones that also detect CO. I used to replace them as part of a job I had. If it wasn't previously going off when you vaped I can't think of anything a vape could do that would set off a healthy alarm. For a bad battery to produce enough smoke or whatever to set off an alarm you would be seeing flames shooting out of your gear. First thing I would do is get a new detector and see if it goes off. If not then you can start to figure out what is causing the bad smell.

Depends on the type of detector. If it's an optical detector (which has a laser that detects particles) then those are much more likely to be set off in my experience. If it's one of the older "ionization" detectors, they fare better and don't give as many false alarms when it comes to vaping.

Incidentally, most fire experts suggest having both types in your home. Both detectors have their pros and cons.

Mine started doing this a few weeks ago and I thought it was from vaping. Then I realized that it was only happening when the heater kicked on. After making sure nothing was wrong with the heater, I pulled the detector down to inspect it. As you might expect after years it had quite a bit of dust built up inside and the air flow from the air being circulated by the heater was disturbing the particles and sending a false signal. So I used the vacuum to suck out as much dust as possible and the problem stopped. The next time I am at Wal-Mart I plan on getting some compressed air to blow them all out better. This is supposed to be done annually, but who really does that.
