Ok, I've decided to go with the smokelessimage.com volt starter kit. Couple of questions, has anyone experienced problems with the push button battery vs. the automatic one? What flavor should I go with? I usually smoke Marlboro lights. And (I'm not really sure how to ask this) how long will these last me? Do I need to order e-liquid (???) too? Is the e-liquid the same as the volt flavor that I'm selecting? Thank you for all that reply!

I ordered one for my wife. She loves it but quickly upgraded to a variable voltage and tank setup. I actually like it too. Great vapor in a teeny package. I'll borrow a bat and carto from time to time when I need to be super stealthy.

Here's the goods:

Great quality and vapor for a cigalike
Blank cartos are cheap and you can fill your own (they last about 10 refills tops)
Portable charging case keeps a fresh bat at all times
Great looks and feel for someone getting off cigs
OUTSTANDING customer service. If something doesn't work right they will ship a replacement immediately with no questions asked.
Makes a great backup once you upgrade and will continue to have it's place even once you upgrade

Cons:

Batteries only last 2-4 hours tops depending on how you vape. My quess for most is 2-3 hours.
Cartos only hold about .5ml of usable liquid. They say .7 but never vape to the .... or it will taste like one
808 threaded (this means the cartos and batteries only work with 808 threaded hardware. Most stuff is 510/ego). There are adapters but they don't always work that well.
Flavor and vapor will never be as satisfying as a tank setup.

My wife and I always prefer manual batteries. We have both. Autos are cool for mimicking a cig but manuals are far better with control. Autos are also more airy and they aren't sealed so if juice leaks in it can fry the battery.

SI's juice is ok. Their ry4 is excellent. Best suggestion if you go that route is to buy a tobacco sampler (or any sampler that looks good) and get at least 1 pack of blanks. Filling yourself is simple.

I really can't say enough good things about SI's customer service and fast shipping. They usually ship the same day.

Here's a link to the kit you described:

Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Volt Pack Electronic Cigarette Kit

Have you placed your order? If not, stop. I think you're going to be disappointed. That's an attractive price until you dig into the details. For starters, that battery is going to be miserably short-lived and the 1ml cartridges will have you running for refills several times a day.

Can I point you in the direction of a better alternative?

Kanger eVod Kit - Red

That's more than twice the price, but you get TWO batteries with 3x the charge performance, each, and two Kanger Evod tanks with a 50% increase in capacity, each.

You will need to add liquid (DV doesn't sell it), but that kit will rock the Smokeless Image kit.

For a beginning vaper, I recommend either the SI volt kits, or the Halo G6 kits...(basically the same thing, slightly different wrappers is all) Both are excellent for the cig-alikes, (I'd recommend the 78mm options, a bit more battery life) Both companies offer amazing products at the price points, awesome customer service, but I have to give the edge to Halo in the juice department. Halo has some outstanding juices.

2-4 hours is about spot on, though you will notice a drop in vapor production at about the half way mark in the time period. Both claim to be regulated, but that was at least my notes on it. If I'm not mistaken, the VOLTs are sealed, even the autos.

SI's customer service is amazing though, the only time I had an issue, they were on top of it, FAST. Top notch CS.

Liquid wise, I've tried the RY4 and the 555, both are good "tobacco" vapes, and have heard great things about some of the fruit flavors as well. It really depends on what flavors you might like though... I though I'd be a tobacco vaper, and to some small extent, I still am, but I tend to prefer sweeter vapes more now, as well as minty (not so much menthol) and am absolutely in love with a cinnamon that I DIY.
None of their liquids are known tank crackers though, so you should be good in those regards.

On the aspect of cartos, when filling yourself, KNOW how to prime them! You'll only ever do a bad prime once, because that first vape on a badly primed carto will fry the batting around the coil and make anything in the carto taste like burnt diaper. Once this happens, there's nothing you can do to salvage it. PBusardo has a great vid about cartos up on youtube, and Baditude here on the ECF has good info on carto priming in his blogs. I highly recommend reading/ watching both.

I tend to agree JL. Anybody who sticks with vaping will upgrade to a tank/vv pretty quickly but a cigalike is an important step for many. Going from a marlboro to and 1100mah winder/evod is a shocking experience. Getting feet wet with something close makes upgrading into vape utopia smoother and fun.

Good advice on cigalikes is to buy a solid performer with the most basic kit possible. 2 batts, one charger, and 10 carts gets the job done.

I don't think of SI as a juice vendor. Only the ry4 is something that I've ordered specifically in the juice dept. Tobacco or fruit sampler is a nice lead into getting off cigs before exploring the mind boggling huge juice market.

If you're dead set on the cigalikes, Try them, I was giving my opinion on the cigalike kits that are out there, but ICBR has an excellent point, the EVOD batts and clearos are a great longer lasting alternative. (They're essentially kanger's brand of 510/ ego batteries).

My friend started with these (well, they were his first "purchase" anyhow.. he was using my volts that I loaned him until he got a kit for himself)... Not much longer than a volt/ g6, but they offer you all the comparability of 510/ ego threading (no adapters needed), better battery life, and of all the clearos I've tried, NOTHING beats an EVOD for price and performance.

With proper care, the EVOD heads (the interchangeable coils for the clearos) can last months, whereas cartos don't get anywhere near that much. In the long run, I think this alone would make up for the price difference in short order.

The other benefit of the EVOD clearos is that they are super easy to change flavors in...cartos you pretty much want to use the same or similar flavors when topping off.

Thanks everyone! What are tank crackers??? What e-liquids should I go with & on what website?

Tank crackers are any e-liquid that can etch, leech or melt (yes MELT) a polycarbonate tank (EVOD clearos, Kanger T3s, most Vivi Novas... commonly they are citrus and acidic flavors, some "spices" (Cinnamon being extra notorious)

Baditude has a great blog about them, as does Ocelot... here's a linky to Bad's:

Baditude's Blog post on Tank Melters (Thanks again Bad!)

As for juices, without looking at what will be your best flavors (because no one knows until they try), I'd recommend probably one of Halo's sampler packs (the variety one has some REALLY good choices in it, including Tribecca, which seems to be a big time favorite here)

Other excellent top shelf vendors are Heather's Heavenly Vapes, AiV, and Ahlusion. If you're looking for the "cheaper" stuff, Mount Baker vapor has TONS of flavors, some awesome, some not so much. But they are more of a hit or miss, as you won't know what you like yet.

I personally started with tobacco flavors, and then moved into a few menthols (was still trying to chase that analog flavor), and finally found a couple of good mentholated fruits I liked, used those for a while while I was learning to DIY my own juices. Now I have at least five got to juices from my DIY, but I still order stuff from Halo... its just been the best for me.

One final option, if you have it available, would be to go to a Brick and Mortar (B&M) vape vendor if you have one nearby, and see if they'll let you sample some of their juices, but not every B&M will have this option (those are the ones I avoid) and not every vaper will have a B&M nearby....

I just wanted to point out that Volt does offer sealed auto batteries now:

Smokeless Image | The Best Electronic Cigarette

To the OP, I ordered the Volt Pro Starter Kit about a week ago as my first e-cig. I couldn't be more pleased with it. As far as the Volt liquids go, I don't have much in the way of experience, but can tell you that I'm enjoying their Ice Menthol very much. You can try one of their carto samplers to see what you think. Plus, you can try out some of the NicQuid juices through the SI site as well - delicious, but $$. Keep in mind that you can always order the blank cartos and fill them with any yummy liquids you come across. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing that most people don't end up sticking strictly to the juices sold by the same vendor that sold them their PV.

As far as batteries go, I have one 65 mm auto and one 78 mm auto, and they deliver a very satisfying vape, as far as this newbie is concerned. The battery life really shouldn't be much of an issue if you aren't chain vaping all day without access to a charger or PCC. If you are looking for something about the size of a cig (which I can completely relate to), then the Volt will deliver very good battery performance compared to others in that class, from what I've read.

I started with Volts as well. Love them! Sure, I upgraded to bigger mods with variable voltage and/or wattage soon after, but no way will I ever give up my Volts! I still buy blank cartos for them every time I get a few new juices that I love. You just can't beat those little Volts for car trips, hiking, out and about, backups, etc. I keep mine in a little case in my purse all the time with a little carto case of five flavors. Never have to worry about leaving home without my supplies. As someone else said, you won't be disappointed in a Volt kit, even if you upgrade later.

Arbcc041,

The Smokless Image Volt is a good place to start. As you might have read, the products, and customer service are great and they have been in business a long time. Personally I do not care for their juice choices. You MUST understand that there are different types of connectors at the top of the batteries. First is the KR808 which Smokless Image uses. Then there is the standard 510 used by most other products except Ego which has a larger outside threading. The larger Smokless Image batteries also have Ego threading along with 808, but if you want to use a 510 tank or carto, you will need an adaptor (couple of bucks) not a budget breaker, but you do need to know this.

I started with the Volt standard kit over a year ago and the batteries are still going strong and will always be a part of my vape gear. Saying that you most likely will quickly move up the vape chain to a Vamo or EVic or Provari. Mark My Words we all have been where you are now.

Best Wishes
