PEOPLE who smoke should be banned from working in the health system because it is akin to allowing convicted pedophiles to roam among children, a medical expert says.
Peter Beaumont, head of the Northern Territory branch of the Australian Medical Association, has lashed out at nicotine-addicted doctors and nurses, saying they should not be allowed to work with children or in indigenous communities.
"You wouldn't send pedophiles to work in an area where there were lots of children … so why shouldn't we limit people who have a very bad health habit? With everything else being equal, we should have a situation where a non-smoker should get the job over a smoker."
About 60 per cent of indigenous people smoke. "In some remote areas that can be as high as 80 per cent, and yet I constantly see groups of health workers standing around their four-wheel-drives all having a puff before they head off to see these people," Dr Beaumont said.
Simon Chapman, a professor in public health at the University of Sydney, said the call to discriminate against smoking employees was "pure myopia".
A spokeswoman for NSW Health said that staff were encouraged to quit smoking but they would not be subjected to any form of discrimination.

I posted this news piece here because it doesn't really relate to vaping.

Fortunately, his opinion isn't yet law. But we already have physicians in the States who will no longer see smokers as patients. Quit or change doctors, they command. There are also movements afoot to deny transplants to smokers whose organs were damaged by smoking. They did it to themselves! They must pay the price for their foolishness. Fortunately, that bias isn't law -- yet. But the way things are going ....

This is all just a further demonizing of not just tobacco and nicotine, but smokers and those addicted to nicotine.

Why only smokers? They should ban people who are obese, drinkers, workaholics, and people who don't cover their mouths when they're coughing from working in health occupations too. Those aren't any less of a "very bad health habit".

won't happen... too many politicians are fat and drink... and rarely close their mouths...

Man this guy really gets my nerves up.

I suppose he is the picture of perfect health practices right? Riiiiggghhhhht.......

So he never eats a hot dog, or has popcorn with butter and a soda at the movies right?

I bet he exercises regularly and never skips a day.

I'm sure all the food in his house is all natural, raw, organic, vegan. No red meat. No potato chips, candy bars, slim jims, etc.

He's perfect.

Smokers are below him.

Friggin .........

I am so tired of the hate speech.

It is unbelievable that there are actually people in this world who feel they are superior to others. That is probably the most uneducated statement I have ever heard and I have heard quite a few!

PS... Love the cartoon by the way! It's fabulous and makes him look even more like an ...!
