Has anyone adapted Smokestik cartos (RN-4081) to use in their AVS?

I am asking because as a SS user, I have learned and verfied for myself that these cartos at normal SS battery voltage are VERY burn-resistant. I have personally pulled a few apart, and have seen no burnt spots. Also, if you purchase the Hendu cartos, there are no stickers on them.. Just plain metal. :)

I tested a bunch, and they come in at 3.5 ohms on average.

I have read that cartos work well in the AVS. It seems to me that the SS cartos may work very well at their ohm rating, and being burn-resistant in the AVS.. EDIT: I forgot to add.. "May work very well at higher voltages" in the AVS

Here is a video I found on these showing this from someone else:

No replies yet... So, how about this question.. Could a 4081 to 510 adapter be used and work in the AVS?

I am interested in this since I will be new to the GGTS/AVS, and I want to get it up and running as quickly as possible. I have been told, and have read that using cartos is pretty much a sure bet for that. I will experiment with the learning curve of using attys in time. The nature of Smokestik cartos not burning, and being at 3.5 ohms makes them ideal for some higher voltage AVS goodness, and should last a long time compared to standard fill cartos. ;)

emonty was nice enough to include some cartos with the holes drilled, and ready to rock when I receive it. :) I may work on switching-out the standard fill of those cartos with the Smokestik fill material. I would imagine besides it being burn-resistant, and longer lasting, the flavor will be better compared to the standard carto fill material...

Should be an interesting experiment.. :)

I'm always interested in seeing new and different things tried. I don't have enough stuff to try much of anything new myself, yet.

Never had a 4081 so I can be no help there.
I HAVE tried 808 cartos and while they do remove any leak/flooding issues, I still end up with the same problems I always have with cartos: slow wicking and burning poly taste.

From the cartos I have dissected (a couple) I am not so sure it is actually the fill that I get the taste from; I believe it to be the wicking and/or insulating material around the coil itself. Some folks seem to either notice this less or get baetter cartos or something. My point- I am not sure if changing the fill would make a difference.
Plus- cartos have the fill wrapped quite well around the coil wire- not a simple process to change it out, I think.

Tech,

I was one of the first to Beta test one of these for Lorik13 and have a pitbull unit too, these cartos are a decent carto but and they work well and have a decent draw to them as well. There are others out that also don't burn up as much, I don't want to post here on this so PM me and we can talk about this in some more detail

rogerdugans,

I have used many different types of cartos and also Beta test lots of new cartos, the fill material, how it is wrapped, and how the coil is, what the Ohms are, and what Voltage they run on, all seem to be a significant factor as to how the carto runs and works in my opinion

Roger, 510 atomizer doesnt leak at all inside CT. Try it and you will see.

Thanks for the replies everyone... :)

The SS cartos are an entirely different beast than other cartos in their design and function. If you watch the video I have above it is plain to see.. The Smokestik carto material does not burn at the normal operating voltage. The material does not even scorch.. I have taken mine apart, and have seen it with my own eyes after many refills.. I currently have around 50 SS Hendu cartos.

That's my point.. Since I will be using some Turbo cartos with holes already punched that emonty included when they get here, because it is a fast option in getting up and running with the AVS before I get the learning curve of using attys, I would rather have a highly burn and scorch resistant material to use than other carto fillers that burn and scorch. The SS filling material will last much longer, and I imagine will taste better after many more refills than other carto filling materials...
