Smoking as in smoking analogs on a plane is a very bad idea. There are no cameras inside the lavatories - there *are* some limits to the insatiable curiosity of the various 'intelligence' gathering agencies ( btw, they're gathering it, cuz they haven't got much of it themselves ).
But there are smoke detectors. Always have been. Even back in the days when smoking was permitted in plances, smoking in the lavatories was always prohibited. A cigarette .... thoughtlessly disposed into a bin full of tissue towels - bad idea. In plane fire at 33000 feet somewhere over the ocean is a guaranteed trip spoiler...

Vaping is a different story. Some airlines tolerate it, some ban it, many haven't made up their mind about yet. Means there's nothing official in their small print. But is vapor isn't smoke, it dissipates rapidly.

And then there's the art of stealth vaping - plus liquids with a very high PG ratio....

I recently flew from Tampa to Boston round trip and Tampa to Maine.

I vaped in my seat and was very discreet about it. I held my breath a little longer for less vape to come out. People next to me or in other seats either didn't notice or didn't care.

Also, I had a bottle of a little bit of juice left that I had in my coat pocket and my device, too. Everything went fine walking through security-no hassles at all.

Just my .02

Flew on a domestic US flight of about 2 hours duration two days ago. Had my preferred stealth vape, an 808 auto battery and carto with me for use in the restroom at the airport.

Couldn't resist the urge to stealth on the plane. Since it was a night flight the lights were out and the 808 fits in my fleece vest pen pocket perfectly. I just leaned over and took a short draw and a regular inhale with a slow release. No visible vapor exhaled and there was no way anyone could tell what I was doing.

I'm sure the flight attendants would have flipped but they can't object to what they can't see or smell, so it's pretty easy to get away with, although I'm sure there's some risk if you got caught.

In the US I think it depends on airport and airline can't say for sure about the UK or India. The airports I was at allowed it but the airplane did not and neither did the Norwegian cruise line that went to 3 different islands.

Not sure what your gear is but I left most of my juice in stow-away and took one ego and 1 30 ml for carry on. I also had about 30 mini's fling from white cloud. Try 1 or 2 before your flight but you can rap that thing in your fist and just have 2-3 mm sticking out the top of your hand. As long you don't accidentally cough I don't think a single person even noticed.

Side note I was on window seat and had wife next to me. If you don't know your direct passenger next to they might wonder why you keep sucking a white straw thing while holding your fist supper close to your mouth ;). So do it on airplane at own risk...and think you would be completely fine in lavatory. I would still hold it in and don't do any medium/large clouds. Exhale into your elbow sleeve as well.

I did that in airport as well as I like myself really didn't want to draw attention to myself. Either that or bathroom.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to have any cameras in the lavatory or any bathroom...I'd be really surprised if it was allowed in the UK or India. At any rate check your local laws but if want to you can hide it really well with a mini fling as long as you practice holding it discreetly in fist.

Fair warning they were super cheap when I bought them during a November special. Around $1.25 a piece I believe. I think they are back around $3.00 which I really couldn't justify for day to day use or a long trip.

On cruise I used mostly standard ego and was just discrete about it. The did allow smoking in the casino so I got my vamo out a few nights and spent some time in there.

I guess you have to be an opportunist, if you see the opportunity - you have to catch the ball. There will be less smoke from a disposable ecig or slim e-cig but my KTS telescope with botton coil does fill up my car with smoke. At work in the toilets I vape with my headphones - chill - never heard a fire alarm go on or in the cinema or in restaurants - though in the smaller toilets at work I can hear people coughing. In the worst case if a fire alarm goes on, I quickly walk out the toilet - if there are no camera's and no evidence in the toilet.

Thanks for the advice - Exhale into your elbow sleeve as well.

I would never have thought about that.

I almost always wear a light jacket that is 100% cotton. Mostly because temperature at work is a bit unstable so I can shed it if I get too warm. It can absorb the vapor very efficiently. I haven't really vaped in summer time yet where I'm only wearing a short sleeve shirt...but even then I usually have a jacket in the office in case the AC gets too cold for me.

Worst case you could smash some toilet paper in one of your fists and blow in that until you are ready to use it ;)
