I've been looking to buy this unit from Ego E-Power Body Unit First off, it seems that there are two version of this out there, one with a soft switch and the one at MVS with the hard plastic switch. I'm guessing by reading some threads here that the hard plastic one is newer, but I'm not positive. I'm getting a bit confused about the different battery options. Can anyone chime in about what the best batteries are for this unit?

There are two different versions of the E-Power. One has a separate switch that's replaceable and the other doesn't. They also offer different ways of installing the battery. In the Ego style the battery is put in from the bottom and the switch doesn't come off. In the other the switch comes off and the battery goes in from the top.

As a side note I just got a Joye EGO-T 18650 MOD ($20);
Joye ego-t 18650 Mod Battery

Works fine so far and able to use the Smoktech 1.7 ohm cartos no problem.

As to the best battery it's really up to you. I'm using cheap Trustfire batteries. Others prefer the AW IMR high drain ones. I don't have any of those and last week when I looked everybody was out of them.
Here's a video on some of the most popular ones out there;

thx stephpd, good info. do you know what the issue is with the ST 1.7's on this type of mod? I saw someone else mention the 1.7 in another thread but they didn't say why it was a problem. I use the 1.7's and the boge LR's consistently on my current setup so I don't want to buy something new that wouldn't allow me to continue using them.

That issue is about the switch on the E-Power 14650. The original switch (blue) had complaints from some that it got stuck. It does sit rather low in the case and I can see how that could happen though I've never had that problem. Then they came out with the 2nd gen switch and it fixed the sticky button but it also doesn't always allow folks to use the 1.7's. It just starts blinking and no vapor.

Hopefully the 3rd gen switch will fix both problems.

As to the 18650 I've never seen one and heard it had problems. Even looking today it's still hard to find one. When I bought the 14650 I couldn't find the 18650 anywhere. Seems all vendors had pulled them from the shelves. I've heard they're coming back and maybe some vendors do have them now. I just haven't looked.

But these talks are about the Smoktech E-Power. The one you show is the Ego E-Power. Those are different in that the switch is built into the tube. So if the switch goes bad you'd need to replace the whole thing. In the Smoketech one it is seperate from the tube and save you some money if you need to replace the switch or decide to change the color of the tube. Combined the prices are similar but the switch itself was ~$12 (Tube is ~$8) verses the $24 for the Ego one.

...some clarification is in order...the hard plastic blue switch in 14650s is the 2nd gen, the first gen was a soft rubber(eGo style) blue switch that would collapse into the switch body...the 3rd gen is the current flawed white switch and hopefully, they will get it right with the 4th gen...and if I got all that wrong, I would say DAYUM, confused again...lolol.......

...the original 18650s had all manner of problems with both the switch, the batt tube etc. These were not recalled so much as just pulled off the market by SmokTech. I THINK the new 18650 eGo-E-Power is also made by SmokTech(I think) and has just recently been reintroduced to the market...they have not been out very long and so far, I have seen no complaints on them...time will tell............

Thanks Jack for the additional info. It's been now added to my memory for later use.:D

I did mention the Joyetech, in that it's what I purchased while waiting for all the Epower problems to work themselves out. Only thing, like most Joyetech batteries is I think it's regulated to a lower voltage then the E-power. Not that i'Ve noticed but I'm using it with a Chibi tank and Caramel tobacco that gets easily burnt. It vapes well on the Joye mod and no real complaints. And it is this model that offers many more colors for the tube, though I'm a basic black type person.

how about the batteries themselves? If you look at the version of the model I'm looking at buying here at MVS, Ego E-Power Combo you'll see they are selling it with flat top batteries. Other places it looks like they have a button top. I wanted to buy the batteries separately to get better ones. Do either of these styles work in this type of mod?

I have the joyetech 18650 and have loved it for the first week I have owned it! That being said the button stoped clicking today! It still will fire, but the nice click has worn out after a week of vaping. I have used this unit allot, but still broke to soon! The good news is the switch is about $12 bucks to replace! Other than this issue I like the unit, and the regulated battery with LR carts is fantastic!

I bought a 14650 with hard blue switch from MVs last Monday. I did have a batt failure, and MVs replaced the batt. But I just looked at it and I see that it is a 1300mah Ultrafire, and the original was a 1600mah Trustfire.....hmmm. Should have looked closer. The switch is replaceable and I can't see it getting stuck as it sticks up fairly high. I'm using the MV dual coil cartos at 1.6 ohms and get a nice vape with all of the MV juices. I did try to measure the resistance of the carto with my DVM and I got 2.3 ohms which I thought was kinda strange. All in all, I'm happy withthe setup.
