I don't think it is crazy, I have a cell, but I don't have a smart phone, as then I can afford to keep my phone going for $20 a month
Its not just CNY. They get a lot of holidays over there.Oh and it also depends what time of the year you order too
The Chinese New Year is a Major Big Deal there. The WHOLE country closes down for like 2 weeks to 15 days.
I mean most everything just stops. Schools, Factories, Mail, and Businesses they just shut down.
Almost makes you wanna move to China. 
I tried to search for that answer and I couldn't find anything that said you could use a PC.
The X Cube 1 could do it, but the only thing I found about the USB port on the X Cube II is, it's for firmware updates

I've ordered quite a few electronic components from Shenzhen and it really depends on how they ship it, if its by air its pretty quick, but if its by container ship it depends when it leaves port, sometimes it will take 2-3 weeks for some companies to fill a shipping container and they may have just sent a shipment the day before so your out of luck, other times I've had stuff shipped out the same or next day and I got it in 2-3 weeks, on average though for me up in canada its about 3-5 weeks.. longest I've waited for an order was 41 days but that only happened once :S
Because mine is just a basic phone, I get 300 minutes (more than enough because I hate talking on a phone) and unlimited texts for $20, my daughter texts me so it works for me.
I have Not verified this but there was someone mentioning the other day that you could use a program called bluestacks on bluetooth laptop to use the android version of app. So you might want to check that out for yourself
I'm sure you can change the colour through the device itself.

I have like 5 :S, my family gives me their old ones, I use a app called Alfred and have them set up as surveillance/motion detection cameras via wifi, 1 on my tools, 1 on my driveway, one by my front door one at my camp that stays connected to my stereo system (has like 4k songs on it) and the one I use daily..
Ah, I was thinking China and UPS...I forgot you get stuff from here too.
I'm sure all the important functions are available on the cube's menu, just can't vape from yer phone!
My Dad has Cricket, I think they have them in your state. He got a smart phone for like $50 or less.
He has no clue how to use it, but he got one
