OK, I've gone through all the responses to the sub competition and, no-one wins!

As some of you suspected, I am aware that I'm cited in some places as being the first to use the word "vape" in the context of the current era of vaping.

And, lest you think i'm blowing vape up my own tushy, the reason I'm intrigued about this and wanted to crowdsource a prior usage is because I wanted to know why I'd chosen to use the term back in 2007! Honestly, it feels like I must have gotten it from somewhere else, but I didn't know about any of the prior usage (the 1982 quote) and I didn't know about it's use for "other substances" (although that seems to have been very rare, in any case).

So, I suspect we'll find another earlier source referring to vaping, but for now, mine stands as the earliest.

I find it interesting that you started that thread and the first reply didn't come until 1 month later.

And the time between posts 7 and 8 was almost 2 years.

You should add a precisely measured mixture of vegetable glycerin, propalyne glycol, nicotine, and flavorings to the supplied reservoir that allows this liquid mixture to be drawn to a heating element (powered by the supplied beast), that produces a phase change in the liquid mixture. You should then then inhale the product of this phase change using the conveniently shaped exhaust port, to receive a flavored dose of nicotine to the mouth, throat and lungs. This is called..."vaping", as defined somewhere around 2006.

Ha! Well, you have to imagine that a week after I set up ECF there weren't exactly thousands of people on ECF, so I was posting things up to try and start discussions - clearly good ol' @TropicalBob came on some time later and decided it was worth chipping in on that one
