You did everything you could and provided him with a loving touch when he needed it. I had this happen earlier this year when my dog had puppies, but one of them was very sickly. Mommy kept pushing her out and I took her and tried to nurse her and give her the love/warmth that she needed, but sadly it wasn't enough and she died. It broke my heart at the time, but I knew I had done all I could and that at least she died having been loved. You should take comfort in that you provided that for him! You have a very good heart!
