Hey everyone!

I plan on getting my very first rebuildable atomizer and after doing some reading and youtube-ing, rsst seems like a good rba for beginners. Reading through the thread I'm still quite hesitant though as some just couldn't get it right at all tho they did their homework on reading up tutorials and seems like setting up the atty correctly, plus there's the leaking issue.

Should I just go for it?

Also I hope to get some advise on which mesh and coil wire would go best with the rsst. I will be getting a smoktech magneto to go with it.

I recommend this as a starter RBA without hesitation. As to the mesh, I use 400. As to the wire, I use 30 guage and like my coils at 1.5 to 1.8. You can go lower or higher to suit your tastes with the guage of wire.

I have had zero leakage issues with my RSSTs.

I did get the silver plated brass positive screws from Ninja Mods. I like them a lot. It was a few bucks but well worth it.

It is a rather nice RBA, isn't it? I'm using one on a custom made hybrid and I love it.

I am quite pleased with both of mine. I am kicking myself for stubbornly resisting RBAs for so long. I think I am gonna get a "higher end" RBA next (KFL, Russian 91, or the like), but I don't see abandoning these excellent devices.

It was my first genesis style RBA. And it's still one of my favorites. I use 400 mesh, rolled not-so-tight, and 28 gauge kanthal. 3 wraps usually puts me just under 1 Ohm. I also use hollow ekowool around the top of my wick. This keeps you from having to oxidize the wick, and it almost eliminates hot spots all together. You still can get them on the legs (the bits of wire that go to the positive and negative captures) but those are usually easy to fix.

I still consider myself a beginner and I get a LOT of help on this forum. Just keep reading, and don't be afraid to ask for clarification to something that's already been answered. Remember to hit your wire with a torch for a few seconds to take some of the springiness out and doing your wrap will be a lot easier.

Here's a few photos of my setup.

I really don't like mine, great vapor, good TH, but no flavour, almost zero. I've even tried using cotton to reduce the chamber with little improvement. I just don't get it, my Vivi Nova had more flavour than this, I will say RSST is super easy to setup compaired to my AGT.

Just received the Top Cap Insert (TCI) from Fusionsmods and what great little addition to the RSST. Better flavor and better vape production. Check out the review by Toddsreviews for more info. For $10 it's well worth it IMHO.

Yeah I've seen it, have you tried the using a cotton ball? I'm guessing it won't be that much different from the TCI. I know others have had the same problem and nothing seemed to fix but most seem happy with it. It has me scratching my head, because I can't see this thing being this popular with no flavour.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I'm gonna get it now and hopefully get through the learning curve tho I really hate reading and learning, just would like to get a decent setup and vape for years like how I used to with my provari v1 + punched cartos (till I lost it! sigh..)

I'm pretty much numb to all flavors now, if rsst produces no flavors it's fine with me haha.. , I'll post up a pic and my first attempt when the order arrives.

Cheers everyone

Alright here's my purchase list :D

Smoktech Magneto
Smoktech Magneto Mechanical Mod (Stainless Steel)

Smoktech RSST
Tanks- Best store- O & O- Best E-cig Store- O & O- RSST- SMOKtech RSST Genesis-

30awg wire
Kanthal A-1 30 AWG Resistance Heating Wire (5 METERS)

#400 mesh
Stainless Steel #400 316L Woven Mesh (A4 Size - 29.7cm x 21cm)

Does above setup looks right to you?

I found there's a ribbon style coil wire, is that better? Kanthal A-1 RIBBON Resistance Heating Wire 0.5mm x 0.1mm (5 METERS)

Also what's the right method on the mesh, should I get a torch to oxidize the entire mesh or do I just roll em up, coil it and pulse it?

I am picking up my RSST at the post office in the morning. What are you all finding with the draw in relation to the IGO-L. The IGO-L stock 1mm airhole was too tight for me and 1.6mm has been absolutely perfect. The increase in vapor production and such was pretty outstanding. Are you all boring your RSST's out to airhole's similar to your other RBA's?

The only thing I would say is that I find 28 gauge much easier to work with.
I'd say get a little of each and see which you prefer. I always do three wraps
and get around .7-1 Ohm.

Also, I'd suggest getting some hollow ekowool, like this (but not necessarily from here, since you're in Singapore):
XS-18 Silica Sleeving - Kidney Puncher
Might try searching for "silica sleeving" and see what you find in your area.

If you DO go with just ss mesh (and there's nothin' wrong with that) you CAN just roll it up, coil, and pulse.

I just typed all this and just now tried my RSST on my Magneto, and it barely fires.
Now, don't let that dissuade you from the Magneto. I think I've got a problem of my own I need to solve
there....
ehhhh.....good luck!

hey zipflint, thank you for your reply. the 28awg is easier to work with in the sense of coiling? I remember I read somewhere 28 will be quite harsh but I guess to each it's own. I'll love to hear more about what problems you are facing with the magneto though

I personally use 28 gauge wire for lower resistance (30-32ga if you want a higher resistance). I do a 3/4 wrap (comes in at about 0.8 ohms) using a mech mod and experience no issues with harshness at all. My Rainer (cherry tobacco) Domestic, and Tennessee Cured are flavorful and produce great vapor with no burnt taste whatsoever. I vape 100% VG so your results may vary depending on your smoke juice blend. Also remember, it's not just the gauge of wire, but the number of wraps as well that will determine your overall resistance. There are many posts about wire and resistance that will help you out with a proper combination for your needs.

for anyone that might be curious. I dropped my RSST cap a few weeks ago and couldnt stand looking at the scratches anymore. I got rid of them EASILY with just 400 / 800 / 1000 grit sandpaper and just water. The finish ended up being even better than it was brand new. The scratches were quite deep too.

I just got in on the tail end of this discussion and I can add my thoughts. I own 2 RSST's and enjoy them very much along with too many other gennie style atomizers. For me personally after trying 32 30 and 28 gauge kanthal with SS mesh, ekowool, cotton and silica I find that I have almost exclusively gone to 0.5 Kanthal ribbon wire. It is a breeze to wrap and on mesh there are virtually no hotspots.

As far as oxidizing the coil I have tried loose and tight wrapped coils, oxidize and juice burn, pulse after wrap, oxidize just the coil area and every other method with varying degrees of success with each. With the ribbon Kanthal it seems that I can have success with any of them. The vapor and flavor are first rate. Oh yes you don't need a torch you can oxidize over a gas stove or with a Bic lighter. You don't need to over oxidize either a light touch is better
Just my experience.
