And, I have a question. When I take the cap off of the atomizer there is some residue type liquid on the surfaces. Sometimes it has been enough to drip slightly and I wipe it off with a paper towel. Is this residue normal?

it will vary from atty to atty but some is normal.

yes like thrasher mentioned, before rolling wick, think of it like rolling your own cigarette, make a fold about an 1/8 to 1/4 inch at the top of mesh, then crease it tightly,keeping this fold upwards then start rolling the wick from the opposite end,

one thing about that wick is that i see a potential of a frey on mesh. it doesnt seem like you folded over a flap before rolling.

I never do that either since I am using unoxidized wicks. It makes things much faster.

45root - I take it that by saying I should try wrapping by hand that you mean to not use the Petar K method and not wrap around a drill bit but to wrap directly around the wick?

vapdivrr - no, I did not fold over a flap. In the several instructions and videos that I reviewed there was no mention of this flap. Where does the flap go? At the end of the wrap to keep the edge of the SS mesh inside the wrap to avoid freys?

As for the fill hole plug, I drilled a small hole through it but it did not help. I put the plug back in and by the 3rd hit I had that bad taste back. Took the plug back out and after a few hits the good taste is back. I have not yet had any leaking from the fill hole with the fill hole plug removed so I will just keep using it that way. I will see how it works. When I am at work I keep my atomizer removed from my Vamo and just keep both in my pants pocket. I will see if it leaks tomorrow.

I have tightened the winds on my wick. I think they look better as can be seen in the attached picture.

I have had that too. I actually removed one of my wraps since I posted the pics. I am not having it as much now but its still there. One other thing with your vapor lock issue is how thick is your wick? I am just guessing but I think my wick is around 3" unrolled. I am using the last piece I have left from a 12" x 12" sheet. I just cut it in half. I find if I fill the wick hole, I get vapor lock. My wick has good play in the hole. I use my wraps to hold it straight. I dont roll too tight as someone suggested earlier. Just roll it solid and dont have to stress my diabetic fingers too much and it wicks like crazy with the fill screws in. this is with every genny I run.

btw, the coils do look much nicer now. I still like to run my posts the opposite way of my coils though. Thats just the way I learned to do it.

Just made my first wick and coil. 400 mesh 32 kanthal. It's reading 1.6ohms. The flavor is pretty good but not as intense as I was expecting. Hoping it gets better.

anyone having issues with the 510 threading? the threading fits all my ego batteries just fine but not my sigelei zmax for some reason. which is wierd cause everything else fits the sigelei. Is there some way to clean up the threads?

Yesterday I took this new atomizer to lunch at a place where vaping is OK and it did pretty well. Not better than my cartos, but pretty close. I kept the fill hole plug out and all seemed OK as far as not leaking. But it still did not seem right like I read that it should be.

So, I made a new wick a little larger this time. I still used the Petar K method to make the coil wrapping the leads to the inside of the connection at both the bottom and the top. Another 4/3 coil. I put the unoxidized wick in and used the pulsing method to oxidize the SS with the coil and all was well there. Here is a picture of the finished coil that measures 2.3 ohms on my Vamo.

This set-up was tasting pretty good last night but would only last 2 or 3 hits and then it went bad. This was with the fill plug removed. I left the whole set-up on my desk all night laying on its side. This morning it had leaked a lot into the cover. I cleaned it up and put the fill hole plug back into place. Every break at work I would try it and would get a good first 2 hits and then it would start tasting bad. Late in the afternoon the first hit started tasting like heaven. The second hit would be good. The third hit would start tasting bad and the fourth hit would be terrible. This was vaping with the wick oriented toward me so that the wick stayed in the fluid when I tilted the device. I even tried orienting the device nearly upside down attempting to get more fluid into the wick and it did not make the good taste last longer.

I will say, though, that the first hit after the atomizer had been in my pocket for an hour or longer was superb. Better than I had ever tasted. But by the 3rd hit was starting to taste bad and the 4th hit was awful.

What could be my problem? The coil is glowing very nicely and evenly on all strands. Is the wick just not wicking as it should? It is 400 mesh SS unoxidized. I did not do a burn type clean either. What has not been oxidized by the coil is virgin SS mesh.

Any ideas? Removing the fill hole plug is not an option. I want to use this at work which means that I will keep the atomizer in my pants pocket detached from my Vamo. And, along this line, I tried it with the fill hole plug removed and had the same results of the tast going bad by the 4th hit. If I could keep this thing tasting like that first vape on every hit I would give my cartos away. But I just can not keep the great taste going.

sounds like your wick cant keep up. The first saturated hit is great but its drying out quickly there after.

klondikes, if you tilt the wick away from the juice to dry the wick, or empty tank and dry fire the wick is there any hot spots? are all your coils lighting up evenly? does the leg to positive post glow, or does it stop glowing before it reaches the positive post? also if you hold vertical with juice and fire without the top cap on what happens? how long will it fire before the coils glow ?

I just got my RSST set up after messing around with the AGAT+ ,I couldnt seem to get a grip on those thumb screws..The RSST has the spring capture post which is awesome,very easy...

I am a noob as well and I built one right off the bat on the first go and had 1.4 ohms ...Vapor was harsh and bad, was getting plenty of juice as well. Today I just found out that my new Lavatube will throw errors out on anything below 1.0 ohms...Duh...that could have saved me many hours of building what looked to be the perfect coil 15 times only to push the button to see "LO" Today I was determined and built another perfect coil check the resistance on the LAvatube and it was .8 ohms...Press the button no go Error...I got mad and grabbed my old school pre vent hole silver bullet,put in an 18650 pressed the button and SHAZAM ! slid the wick in pressed the button, dripped some juice, pressed the button good to go , filled with juice, vaped and FINALLY I saw the light...AWSOME flavor,Vapor TH etc...

Im just wondering if its safe to use on the Silver Bullet with efest imr and aw imr 18650 batteries Once I check the resistance on the vv device ?

did you say it was 0.8 ohms? well with aw imr batterys youll be fine

it probably means that your top coil isnt vaporizing any liquid, as the heat is just going by the wick. it is usually caused by improper tension of the wire in that area. either to tight or to loose. the aga is imfamous for this because of the greater distance between the wick and positive post. i add a washer to the pp, this closes the distance. something else you can do is to make the top wrap come behind the wick and then attach to the pp, this will keep the wire in more contact with the wick. wrapp the wick in one direction, then connect to pp in the opposite direction. usaully extra lenght of wire with no contact will produce a hot leg

I think I figured it out. The wick I built was a straw style wick. As has been suggested, the wick was not wicking properly. I stated over again but this time made a solid wick - no hole through the middle. This time I did not use the Petar K method for the coil. I went ahead and wrapped the coil, another 4/3 coil, right around the wick. That was not as tough as I thought it would be. Ended up with a 2.3 ohm coil again. Once I got everything working with pulsing to get the oxidation under the coil, I filled 'er up with juice, gave it a hit, and the taste was really good. Right up with my cartos. I have been vaping on it for a good session and the hits are getting even better. In the vaping session I did not get one single dry hit. Only good, full flavor hits.

All of this was with the fill hole plug in place. I will give it another try tomorrow at work. I have a hunch that I have this thing working good now and it is just going to get better tomorrow. I will let you all know how it goes.

The 400 mesh SS was 3 inches wide and man is it working great!!! Really good taste. Didn't want to vape with my cartomizers at all today.

that was my next suggestion, to use more mesh. when i vaped mesh, i used to start out with 500 mesh and a peice around 4 inches, rolled solid, maybe just a very very slight hole in center, the hole was smaller then a paper clip. one more thing i would reccomend in the future, i think your using 32g wire, i would reccomend 30g, the thicker wire produces a much better flavor, also maybe lower your resistance a little. genesis atomizers do perform better at lower resistances. a 3/4 wrap of 30g is a good set-up, depending on your wick size this may be around 1.3 to 1.6. you would be pleasently surprised of the difference of this set-up compared to a 32g at 2.3Ω. your wick now seems to be good, so i wouldnt change that. one thing that can make a difference is that there should be some wiggle room between your wick and wick hole, you need some space for better air flow. a tight fitting wick sometimes will suffer a bit. good luck
