I don't know what the wick-hole insulator is made of, but is it possible that as the ss wick heats up, especially on a drier hit, that heat is causing the insulator to impart a bad taste? I mean, that thing is right in contact with the juice flow. I don't know, just wondering aloud. Perhaps, if the new wick doesn't help, removing the insulator might be something to test next???
Thats a good observation. I took the wick out and am using it in another device and am not getting the odd taste that I got with the rsst. The insulator in the rsst isn't quite like the insulator in the zap, which is obviously plastic and easy to remove. I just took a good, up close look at the rsst wick hole.. it looks to be metal with something black around it... like it's an insulated hole, maybe a black delrin, with a metal fitting in it. Not sure it can be removed and it doesn't look like it anything but metal is coming in contact with the wick.
I haven't set it up since I took it apart and washed it again this morning. The washer that goes on it is currently in use in one of my DIDs so, until I decide to take that apart, the rsst will have to sit here washerless. I talked to the guy from captivapes, where I bought it, asking about replacement parts. He said that they had been in contact with Smok and were in the process of getting springs and washers in to be able to purchase seperately.![]()
Just got my first build up and running! I was actually surprised that it was relatively easy. Will oxidize wick a bit more where coils are next time as it took forever to get all coils glowing on unoxidized mesh. Slightly metallic flavor to start with but it's getting better and working like a champ. I'm going to have to get one of those magnifying lamps as this thing is just too small for my old eyes.
Thanks to everyone for posting pics, tips, and experiences with the RSST! Now off to get an IGO L set up!

Sorry if this has already been covered, but has anyone heard about trying out a brass screw in these? I have heard that some are trying to get brass screws to help out with voltage drop. Anyone tried it and noticed a difference?
After a week with experimenting with this, I am still on the fence about this. It is simple and easy to set up. But I don't get great vape and the draw is tight. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. The flavor is full though.
I think I just figured out how you can be getting a lot of juice on the deck of the RSST. With a hollow rolled wick, an original size air hole, and fill plug in, you may be sucking juice up the wick tube. Pretty sure that's what I've got going on so I'm going to enlarge the air hole just a bit.
Thanks eratik. I dropped that fill hole piece last night and played hell finding it! Must get a supply of nylon machine screws. I gotta keep that hole covered or I know I'll have juice everywhere!I used a solid SS mesh wick and made the air hole a tiny bit bigger. Be careful not to make the hole too big all at once. It may become to airy for you.
I also did not like the silicon fill hole piece. I tossed it and am using a nylon machine screw in its place.
- Andy . . . Challenge the day.
Maybe i will attempt. I did this with my AGA and was like I was sucking air with minimal throat hit. The AGA top cap is ruined for me and I don't want to do the same to the RSST.
Will there be a significant change in throat or lung hit if I drill out to 1.2mm?

That's 1.6mm.My rsst hole is 1.3 (drilled per order) I have a DID that's drilled to.. (well, I don't know exactly but a 1/16 drill bit fits perfectly in it)
