I have an EHPro KFL+ clone that I sub ohm on a mech mod and I'm really thinking about getting another rda tank style attey for my MVP2. I'm looking at either the smotech RSST or another KFL+ but I have no experience with genesis style atomizers. What are ya'lls thoughts on the RSST? It's about half the price of the KFL+. How does it compare to the kayfun?

The RSSt can't compare in any way. Have you ever tried a dripper? Those are my favorite. An iGo-W is a great place to start. I know that wasn't your question though. Kayfun without a doubt.

I beg to differ with you, I have an IGO-W and an RSST, and the dripper has been sitting in my cigar box for months now in favor of the RSST, which is my all day vape. Perhaps you just didn't know how to build yours right.

I do have a dripper that I use sometimes but I really do like my KFL+ just as much or better sometimes. I don't like dripping all the time. I'm looking for a tank style RDA that's comparable to the KFL+ that I can put on my MVP2. I would really like one a little smaller than the kayfun. It's just so big on the MVP2.

I was saying it saying it doesn't compare in any way to the Kayfun.

Years ago we were vaping with cigalikes, attys and blue foam. I was testing DIY juice with those old attys and cartos with the filler pulled out. Decided to get a cheap $7 A6 RDA. That worked great and in some ways better than a clearo or tank. Decided I wanted something with a tank. Just got an RSST. I'm using cotton ball wick for now. You have to tip it to keep the juice fed, it will leak if you lay it down, it weeps a bit down the middle and out the bottom, and the stock air hole is too small. Other than that I find it easy to coil and wick and it works well for me. pbusardo has a review and he liked it once the hole was opened up. A forum member showed me a pic of his with two air holes and dual coils.

I got mine here, less than fasttech. It has the plastic tank. There is also a pyrex version.

I will also beg to differ here. I own a KFL+,Pyrex RSST, Omega clone (RDA), and Trident clone (RDA). The KFL+ is great, but I like the clear window and love me some tank cracking juices. So I bought the RSST. It took a looong time to set up the RSST. Using ss mesh has a steep learning curve. But once I wick and coiled it, the RSST rocks in flavor and vapor production. I get twice the amount of vapor as a KFL. And both were built to 1.6 ohm coils. The reason is simple. I drilled out the airflow hole to the RSST to 5/64.

On the go, tank systems are just more convenient than RDA's, IMHO. And the set up I have with both the KFL and RSST works well for me. I love my RDA's. Their flavor and vapor production in unequaled. But I can't use them on the go.

I must admit you have my curiousity up. (I use Kayfuns and drppers now) Also...many of the youtube folks I admire continue to use Genesis style atomizers. A couple of questions, if I may. Is there a particular one that is not "juice cracking" sensitive that you would reccomend? Is steel mesh or cable the only way to go? I saw the post about using cotton wick, is that working well?

I'm so glad you got the most out of your RSST, but sorry it took a looong time to get it set up right. I started RBA's with an AGA-T2, so I'd already been through the grinder on RBA setup issues when I finally got my RSST, which proved a total breeze to set up. By that time I'd made dozens of wicks and a great many more coils, so setting up an RSST with mesh and kanthal was like making a cup of coffee. I could order up any other RBA in seconds, I just don't see any reason to do that. I'm perfectly happy with my RSST set up straight genny, with 400 mesh and 26 kanthal running at .7 ohm.

It always amazes me that others have such issues getting a genny built right and working well. I really have no idea what the problem is. I also can't understand why some choose to build the RSST as something it's not with cotton and microcoils and then complain about the result.

It's a genny!

It amazes me that someone can setup a genny to work reliably. I never managed to get what I would call a good vape out of mine. I must have put 50 different setups into mine ranging from 0.5-2 ohm with 28 30 and 32ga kanthal. I tried 400 & 500 ss mesh and cotton for wicks. With the SS mesh I could never get rid of the hot spots, always a burnt taste. With cotton it always tasted like the wick was dry after a couple of hits, even with tilting and made sure that the wick hole was not over filled with cotton. I have been vaping my own coils for over a year now and they work great in protanks, kayfuns and my aqua as well as several drippers. My genny just doesn't like to work and I can't figure it out.

For my RSST I use a 5/64 drill and 30ga A1, 6 wraps. Leave it on the drill and drop it down the wick hole. Connect the legs. Remove the drill. Take a piece of cotton ball about a half inch wide and 2 inches long. Twist it small enough to feed down the coil into the tank. Trim the top and shove down until almost level with the top of the coil. That is about a 2mm wick in a 3mm hole. 1.5 ohms.

I guess looong is relative. My microcoil builds typically take 10 minutes from start to finish. But working out the shorts, that first build, on the RSST took me almost 1 hr. By my 2nd and 3rd build, it got a lot better. But it still takes longer than the 10 min microcoil and cotton builds on my KFL and RDA's.

With that said, like I said, the RSST rocks. Flavor and vapor production is top notch.

I agree...to say an RSST doesn't compare to a kayfun is silly. I have 6 or so kayfuns and z couple clone kayfuns. A properly built Genny definitely compares to all of them. The vape is actually better in a good Genny. I prefer the kayfuns because my stuff winds up on it's side a lot. On an MVP, Id choose a kayfun. I like my gennies a bit under 1 ohm and my kayfuns at about 1.2 ohms. But if you don't have a Genny yet, try the RSST. They're a lot of fun and the RSST is the one to learn on.

I have the RSST, HCigar 3.1KFC, R91C, Igo-W. The RSST sees more action than the 3.1, the Igo gets a slot along side the 3.1, theR91C is in the storage box....
The RSST is the easiest to setup and maintain, doesnt require draining or running it empty to do coil work, and the wick/coil assemblies are in the multitude configuration zone... basically you can use just about everything in it...
only thing I dont like about the RSST is that silly little fill plug fitting... to easy to loose in the carpet ;)

My brother has a KFL and keeps trying to steal my RSST/Magneto setup :)

I don't have a KFL for comparison, but I love the RSST. My brother built it for me, because I don't know how to do genny builds yet, but it hits so smoothly. He used a thicker wick that basically plugs up the wick hole completely, and I can lay it on its side or turn it upside down with no leaking. I've not yet had any sort of problems with it. I only use it at home or in the car though, I never take it out and about with me.

If you already have a KFL, I definitely recommend the RSST for something new and awesome.
