Seems he had a problem within his a few minutes of first using it, which sounded like a short. You're right, we don't know.
Not hearing of this happening with others, and I hope it doesn't. Unlike that mod that got recalled because it went crazy on people (can't remember the name off the top of my head - but it was bad).

Are you referring to the TOX by any chance? Got Vapes sold their remaining stock to their Alpha members for $10 recently. They said they took stopped selling it due to issues with the control head.

He is probably referring to the LT 1.5, the early Young Junes, just my guess as they were also called "zombies"

These looked just like Lavatube on the caps and the metal piece on the 510 end under the plastic would contact the pcb causing it to turn on,
And there are the later YJ's that fire battery power even when off like the one I have.

Yes, the LT 1.5.

I sure don't know; and yes, when it first arrived, it seemed I had screwed the VN on too tight; worked the contact back up and it seemed to work fine for a few days--and then the 'thing' happened. From what I recall, I fired it, set it down on my desk and then came back a few minutes later and it was firing constantly. I just hope MV can determine what went wrong because I would really like to acquire another Z.

I spect they'll be taking a good look at it. What you said when it first happened was you came back and it had melted the top. Maybe it was shorted, maybe firing. Do you know for sure - or do you just think it was firing because of what happened?

I'm just not sure if it ever stopped firing; it might have but I walked out after using it; didn't hear anything or notice anything unusual.

IMO it just kept firing and I didn't notice.

I think wait and see what MV say. It sounds like it shorted to start with, and a few days later it was smoking and sizzling, and the carto was melted. Whether or not it was firing is a guess.

But we don't know if Natgas' device was actually firing or he had a hard short to the battery. If that is the case the battery would have gotten extremely hot and the heat would transfer to the atty and that could have been the reason the tip melted and the juice boiled out. In a previous post it seemed like Natgas had a hard short by screwing his atty on too tightly, so without a forensic analysis we all are just guessing what actually happened in his case.

The plastic screen would have melted if that were the case as the heat would have had to travel through the board.

The wiring on the top of the board would have gone very quickly with that sort of heat - my guess is either continually firing or firing for 10 seconds and then firing again straight after that.

Been away from this thread for a while, but heard rumors of self firing units, and other issues relating to the electronics.. I've had my auto fire on me when pressing the button multiple times to access the menus, but unscrewed my gennys til the 10sec cutoff kicked in and ignored the problem as it didn't bother me TOOOO much, and has been working great since maybe three of those instances a week or so ago. Has anyone tried to return one under the 6 month warranty yet? I won't be happy to part with it if it has to go away. :(

I guess I should add my Zmax firing story also, the day I received it on about the 5th time that I pressed the fire button it didn't stop when I let off the button. Thinking that the button was simply stuck I started pressing the button and it was clicking away but still firing. So I unscrewed the atomizer and re-installed the battery and never had the problem again. This was with the 18650 battery and I only use the two 18350's these days , I am curious if this is only happening with the single battery set up.

I ordered a Zmax this past weekend knowing fully about the voltage/wattage accuracy problem on the readout...I'm not too concerned as I figured I don't vape with my eyes  but I'm glad that I'm aware of this self firing issue!

I ordered the Zmax from Madvapes. I also ordered a FreE-Volt Variable Voltage Tube Mod (L-Rider) from FreE-Cigs.com and a Joyetech ego-T 18650 mod from Liberty Flights.

I planned on just purchasing a Provari...but I figured that I would try a couple other VV units first so I can eventually contrast the experience with the Provari when I eventually get it...and then I'll have a few backup devices I can use in different situations like work etc.

I just recently started vaping...quit smoking 9/29 with a simpe e-cig and have picked up a couple of Volt X2's and CigEasy Elite 808's and have been researching and learning a lot here at ECF. I smoked about 2-2 1/2 packs a day and haven't had a single smoke since I started vaping...I can really tell the difference in the way my chest feels.

Good luck mate!
Keeping off the stinkies will make a huge difference to your pocket too - unless you go mad buying kit!

has anyone had issues with the zmax not memorizing settings? i use it in voltage mode and it has never saved any settings when switching out either an 18650 or stacked 18350s. i was kinda concerned about that but i guess ultimately not a big deal. but when one function reported function doesn't work you get a little nervous...

i got the SS zmax from madvapes if anyone has a similar experience.

My ZMax remembers settings for at least 8 hours w/o a battery in it.

PS: I only use it in wattage mode.
