Good morning gang.

CES, there's a few settings that you may like now that it's all installed. You can make the desktop come up by default, and also change the little "menu" button, and also have the metro interface to have the same background as the desktop.

Here's a blog post from someone that did a summary of the new options:
https://blogs.technet.com/b/askpfep...-start-button-options-and-configurations.aspx

Already have it set to boot to desktop...though i haven't figured out what metro is yet. Thanks for the link :)

And for this link too.

I've decided i like it - specifically because win8.1 has a nifty little program that checks compatibility with earlier versions of windows, and will install programs with settings from XP :D Back compatibility is a very nice feature! I won't have to use a virtual machine.

Still have some programs to install, and bloatware to uninstall. I can't set up my primary email account until IT gets me on the network Monday, but i've got office installed.

Friend of ours went to adopt a rescue dog today. He got to take the dog out for awhile before signing the papers. He took the dog in the pet food store and dog knocked some stuff over. When our friend bent over to pick the stuff up the dog bit him in the face.

Oh no. :(

I hope your friend is OK. I guess that doggie won't have a new home  (I know- you can't keep a dog you can't trust...but it's sad)

... you can't keep a (insert animal type here) you can't trust ...

OR... you possibly learn what your new pet does not like (for whatever reason... whatever baggage it carries) and avoid it.

Our T'mato does *NOT* like to have have your/our face IN his... "oooo snoogie woogie itty bitty kitty snoogums". He will hiss and growl and slap and lunge ... with teeth. So... *I* don't do it. Can't say the same for Husbear... and he (Hus) gets a reprimand from ME every time he does it. T'mato comes from an abusive past... and there are some things he will not let go. I accept that.

And yeah yeah yeah... a dog is more dangerous than a cat... again, it's a path of discovery. For some reason, that dog does not like a human at his level, height-wise. Then do not PUT yourself there. The dog has told you "do not want" in the only way it knows how.

That sucks Fran.

Face in face is not necessarily good with a dog...particularly if you are smiling. They just don't know "human" sometimes and misinterpret things. Happens when you wake them too. They have to learn to overcome that instinct. Usually happens with puppies though, not adult dogs. That, or...the dog's gotta go.

The GF woke Fido once by leaning down and looking him in the eye and patting his head (on couch) while smiling. Was a bad idea...
Dog awoke to teeth-in-face with pressure above head. Insta-reaction. GF was OK. Just a scratch. Fido was a puppy/young then.

He won't bite. He HAS grabbed though...saying "Enough brush for now" even though I'm trying to be very gentle. But he won't clamp down. Normally, I don't even put up with that level of teeth from a dog. No teeth on people is the rule.

Glad you got things running CES! Impressive. Sounds like you have it nailed.

Metro is the flat-color Chiclet/tile interface you get when you press the Windows key. You can think of it as a "2nd desktop of a new style".

Also...hint for really-closing apps. The metro apps don't close normally, they just go to sleep. To close them....
1) Grab the top of the app's screen and hold down the mouse button.
2) Drag it all the way to the bottom of the screen. It will become a small square version of itself as you do this.
3) Hold it there for a second or two (at the bottom). It will flip over and become the tile-icon.
4) let go of the mouse button.

i hope that it was just a one time, anxious dog in a new setting with a brand new person type of reaction. And that no actual harm was done.

If you know what your pet doesn't like, and what things to avoid, then you know exactly what you can trust.

Mine will allow me to take food right out of their mouths, but they learned it early and I wouldn't recommend someone they don't know trying to do it.

Cool. this is acting more and more like the interface for apple products. ;)
I've been closing apps by going to the upper left corner, waiting for them to pop up on the left split screen thingy and then right clicking to close. I'm getting better in moving the tiles around and organizing them in the app screen that i now know is called metro, but there's still a good change that i'll open them instead of move them.

ETA: I just tried that method for closing an App. a little more difficult that clicking the little x, but hey, it worked. thanks!
