My Grandmother had one of those as late as 1971 or so. She didn't take it with her when she moved into an apartment. I also remember a fairly disturbing picture featuring a young Kitten Natividad (star of Russ Meyer films) getting "too close" to one of those contraptions. It was supposed to be funny (a *HUGE* *HUGE* pancake with an Oreo on top
) but I was young back then and thought it was frightening 
.
... and thinking about it, it may have been a still from one of her movies. Russ Meyer films were notorious for "ultra violence"... so yeah, it makes sense. Wonder if I can find it on the 'net.
