I don't understand why people own pit bulls and treat them as anything other than attack/guard dogs. I can see them patrolling empty stores or something as guards. I can't see them as "normal pets". Sorry pit owners. It takes extra-precaution to even own them. They have a strong kill-instinct.

You're not "Cool" because you own one. You're asking to get sued.

It's not the dog's fault for being. But IDK why people breed and own them, for the most part.
:2c:

btw no dog should be allowed to roam - even a small one can do untold damage to a toddler

i beg to differ ;) while i never had a pit bull i've had rotties and dobies - 2 other maligned breeds - and found them to be lap dogs. and while i would not trust my bil's pit - he's prone to seizures - i've met plenty of others i would not hesitate to take in

I didn't say you can't take them in.
I said...why breed them in the 1st place? Only reason: guard dogs.*
Sure, they're nice to adults that they know. That's not the point.
Different dogs have different kill instincts. Some is a matter of training. But there's breed traits too.

* (And having a guard dog means extra responsibility. No dog should roam...true. But...these need extra precaution, IMO)

they are working dogs. if the breed has changed it's due to us - remember the little rascals? - and our responsibility to undo what was done .... sigh

gone now ;)

G'mornin, snails!

I have yet to meet a mean pitbull. Still, while they can be the most loving and loyal family pet...it takes a good owner to keep them out of any kind of situation that might trigger the instincts that have been bred into them. Humans bred 'em, humans should "take responsibility" for 'em...

ETA: OIY, get outta my brain, tibs!
