The other thing is a lot of horses skip one or both of the first two races.
I think they should change the rules to run all or nothing. (of course you could drop out, but not skip any before the Belmont)

He's got a point, you know... That's why the Triple Crown is hard--it's almost impossible to win against fresh horses.

I agree. If you want to compete for the Triple Crown, you should run your horse in all three races--that would make more sense to me.
OTOH, it is what it is. That's why the Triple Crown is so rare and special.
