Oh, and good morning, Bear.

Happy AM.

Another day of gradually trimming foundation bushes/shrubs. Gonna be quite warm (and tomorrow and Tuesday).

Need to take measurements of the remaining area to be hardscaped. The landscaper is coming Tuesday. Easy estimate of at least 100 linear feet at various heights. If they can do the work late August / early September, I'll give 'em the thumbs up to just do it and get it over with. At the very least, I will get a quote at 2014 price for work to be done in April 2015.

Does anybody here think it is TOO brass-ballsy to say, "Hey, I've spent <insert x THOUSANDS of dollars here> in 2013 and 2014. What can you do for me as far as price?" (Of course, I would do it AFTER he gives the quote.)

 LOL!!! Listen to me... ME asking if it's "TOO brass-ballsy"!!! LOL!!!

You can always ask, Bear.
Depends on the timing too. If he has a backlog of better paying work, he may just say "Nope, fixed price". No reason to take a loss. OTOH if he has dry-spells he may say "ask me in August" or whatever month. Or, he may agree to a discount.

But for piece-work, generally not. The larger the job, the more discount. Piece work just means he has more total overhead doing several jobs over several years and gets no economics of scale like he would if he did it all at once. But it might be good "filler work" between profitable stuff.

Basically, it depends on his schedule and mood and costs and other jobs. You don't know unless you ask.
