my vacuum cleaner returned and burnt parts replaced and the refund or a refund high enough to buy a top of the line canister now - they seem to have inched upwards to the tune of 200 bucks

The "refund" will probably be enough to account for the "lost value" of the original...aka a used model of $$$$$ dollars. So, if you're lucky, they'll give you some "credit" or offer to replace the existing one with an identical/similar model.

If so, take the credit and apply it to a new, better, model.

that was a top of the line canister, can't buy one now with just the original purchase price refunded. this was an unsafe product they put on the market ..................
