Yep, the cost savings is a nice unexpected benefit. I think the cost of cigs here is something less than half of what you pay there.

Soda update: Making another batch. This time, not brewing-in-bottle. Have 2nd bottle brewing CO2 attached to 1st bottle with water. So, making carbonated water.
Then pour DIY syrup in glass, add CO2 water, stir.
I think at the price of sugar and ingredients I'm probably not quite breaking even compared to store bought soda at 88 cents per bottle. However, it's five times better. Amazing... the difference between "It tastes like" and "It IS". And I'm not hauling bottles around as much since I clean and reuse them.
About 25 cents for a cup of sugar (what a rip)
10 cents for caffeine
water = free (or close)
Ingredients vary for flavoring.
Makes 2 liters.
CO2 bottle requires sugar too...IDK yield yet.
