CHRISTMAS tree lights:

... why does the wire gauge have to be that of the Northeast power grid??? The wire is not carrying kilovolts, for Christ's sake. And why does the insulation need to be so stiff?

OK... the two strands (150 each) of Jujube-shaped lights got tossed. On both strands, while in storage, the 75 lights following the mid-string fuse-box-thingy would not light. They provide replacement fuses (teeny-tiny), but the fuse holder is SEALED. How may a consumer replace the fuses if the consumer cannot GET to them???

The five strands (100 each) of C7 (I believe) lights had 1, 1, 1, 3 and 4 lights out. They provide replacement bulbs, but... guess what?!?!?!... the bulbs are sealed into the sockets!!! Like the fuses: If they provide replacement bulbs, why are they NOT replaceable??? Now, most people would just use them anyway. However, you just KNOW that the burned-out bulbs would be front and center when put on the tree. But I'm not "most people".

So... had to break down and go out on a Saturday to the store for all new lights.

One last gripe (for this post): Why can the light strands never go back INTO the box from which they were bought??? You could use an industrial trash compactor and they would STILL not go back in.

Oh yeah... forgot...

... there were some neat long-strand (ie: 75) color-changing C7 lights on display. Me wants. But none on the shelves. I inquired and was told that it was "very late in the season" and they sold out within days... back in SEPTEMBER. So remember folks: if you need anything for late-November or early-December... get out there in the heat waves of late Summer while your gardens are in full bloom and you're still mowing the lawn.

Addendum: They could not order MORE??? Are all the Chinese folks on vacation the rest of the year? Have the factories (or sweatshops, whatever) closed up already?

Bear, all that is why i don't usually bother with christmas decorations.

I'll tell you what, CES. The *ONLY* reason I do this is for Dad and Husbear. If I was alone, I would not do it. In thinking about the four CLOSEST friends we have, none put up CHRISTMAS decorations. Not even a stinking mistletoe bough. :D

Mom and I put up some decorations while i was out in Phoenix. It was nice. The beasties would prefer that i don't decorate here , 'cause they had to wear reindeer antlers on their heads the last time (only for a very short time- but still)

New York
saw the headline appear on the nydn website not too long ago ............. :(
Yes, it's not good. There was another derailment earlier this year on the same commuter line, but so far they say it is not related. Send good energy in the general direction of NY please :)

Unfortunately, I have to get on another local commuter train (going to a different part of NY) within the hour to visit some friends...I hope I get there in one piece! :)

See you good folks tonight.
