Besides, I just looked at the ACA plans and the "coinsurance after deductible" crap. Now that looks like it's for ER visits. But the question is ...since ER is the most expensive and it can be up to 40% coinsurance, why bother with insurance. True, most are more like 20% and one or two have none. IDK what the other coverages are. But this "co-insurance" crap needs fixing.

The system needs to be changed to re-route people out of ER to better options. Have a clinic across the street or something. Maybe with a training school or people working on residency for simple stuff. Basically insta-access to normal care routes.

God forbid anyone actally has an Emergency...paying 40% of that bill....wow. There's out-of-pocket maxes....like 6000 for affordable plans and as low as 2000 for expensive plans.

lol, atty - when you look at most of the 'affordable' plans (guess obama was talking premiums here) the out-of-pocket expense and co-pays are out of this world -

Ha, last time i posted a picture, you blamed me for your food choices ALL day. :p

Yeah. That was the plan today too. But it didn't work....... :( ;)

Yes Tibs. But some are better than others. It's totally strange. Probably a lot more in the "Details" section. Something I have to spend a few days pondering. There's 31 options for me.

The good news is I got data on it without having to sign up and give all my info...so far.

The lowest cost one (not counting income credits) is:

Monthly premium
$206/mo
One enrollee

Deductible
$5,950/yr
Per individual

Out-of-pocket
$6,350/yr
Per individual maximum

Copayments/Coinsurance:
Primary Doctor: $30 Copay after deductible
Specialist Doctor: $50 Copay after deductible
Generic Prescription: $4 Copay after deductible
ER Visit: $250 Copay after deductible and 40% Coinsurance after deductible

There are some with a lot more reasonable deductibles...but...they mostly still have coinsurance. You have to factor in the max-out-of-pocket though.

Here's one that's more reasonable:

Monthly premium
$460/mo
One enrollee

Deductible
$1,000/yr
Per individual

Out-of-pocket
$2,500/yr
Per individual maximum

Copayments/Coinsurance:
Primary Doctor: $20 Copay before deductible and 10% Coinsurance after deductible
Specialist Doctor: $20 Copay before deductible and 10% Coinsurance after deductible
Generic Prescription: $20 Copay after deductible
ER Visit: $150 Copay and 10% Coinsurance after deductible

Sigh. The good news is I'll probably get a good "deduction" if my guess as to income is correct.

Well, it's better than catestrphic, but worse than what I usually had when well employed.

The whole thing is sad. They haven't addressed the cost/expense/discount side of the issue well at all.

Like I keep saying (hoping)....it's just "phase I". It will be better in a decade. It's just the start of the "writing on the wall"....in a good way (not doom way).

who of the necessary 'young ones' is gonna sign up for that mess? they should have started with the medicaid expansion to get the most needy insured and taken it from there.

I agree, except that states like mine absolutely refused to expand medicaid. (probably in hopes of torpedoing ACA)

sigh.........

In my uninformed opinion they should have just gone with single payer. And it still seem to be the insurance companies that are making out on this.
(and that's all i'm saying on the subject, 'cause i just don't have enough information to join the discussion)

you better believe it! already they have thousands of insurance agents clamoring for their cut, and yes - those will be paid!
