well, i had the bone graft after a tooth was pulled and did not feel much of anything - you should be in the clear! ;)

Yeah, my friend had it after the tooth was pulled too. So I'm hoping it'll be even easier. I am such a wuss when it comes to stuff like this. The fact that it'll be fine doesn't keep me from dreading it.

How's DH this morning, Tibs?

Any word on SIL's father, Fran?

Good morning Atty.

They prescribed something for during the procedure...but i don't always respond well to them and I'd rather be anxious than nauseous. But, I took one last night as directed - well half of one anyway. No major effect or adverse reaction, so i can take the full dose prior to the procedure.

When they operate on your mouth/teeth...drugs are needed. Stoic shmoic.

There's no reason in the modern age to have painful dentistry. "Painless dentistry" (or as near as they can get) is the expected norm.

You and I don't have to tell CES about nerves, drugs, and pain blocking. She already knows. And should be using the right drugs. I know drugs have side-effects. So she has to be aware. But.....

Oh, they will be using novocaine Atty. Absolutely! i darned well better not feel a thing during the procedure.

They prescribed an anxiolytic - but i think that's because they don't want me moving around while they're stitching things up. They offered general anesthesia as an alternative, but- as much as i dread this- an extra $300 out of pocket is not going to happen. I assume that they'll give me a painkiller rx afterward. I'll fill it. But if history is any guide i won't actually need to take many/any. fingers crossed. If i'm lucky the advance dread will be the worst of it.

And of course, no vaping after surgery. So get some nic lozenges. :p :)

Ha.

I know the suction is potentially an issue, but I'll be careful. The nic could be a slight problem- it may block release of one of the factors that initiates bone regrowth. BUT, they're actually adding that factor in when they do the graft, so whether my body releases it or not is a moot point. Besides, I'm only using 2-4mg right now. I also have some 0mg. I'm not quite ready for that, unless i want to be vaping non-stop.

That's most of it right there.

So people using nic have slower bone healing??????????

there are some studies that indicate that that's the case. And yes, they're studies that look at nicotine rather than smoking. It looks like nicotine can decrease one of the factors (BMP2) required for initiation of bone growth. Other studies report no difference in healing, so who knows. But, i healed when i smoked, and i'm nic-dependent enough that i'm gonna assume i'll probably heal now too.
