I think I'd be walking out of most appointments...though I rarely go to the doc. I only go when I have to, cause I get too annoyed.

Mom's doing ok Tibs. She's an incredibly strong lady....but it still hits her pretty hard at moments. She's very glad I decided to stay, and so am I. (Even though I do miss my beasties). It doesn't hurt that she got over 100 hugs at the service, her entire office showed up, and some very old family friends came. The best comment was from someone I've known since I was in elementary school...'THIS SUCKS' he said. Yep.

My brother had to leave yesterday. With 6 kids he can't afford to miss any work. mom's sister and dad's brither also had to leave yesterday. It's me and mom....and all of her friends out here- several of whom made a point of letting me know that they were going to watch out for her :)

The beasties won't know the difference, and my friends are watching out for them :D

oh, bear! have you checked the possibilities for 12-26/27???????????????? run for the hills! :D

The time right after Christmas is "birthday season"... both Dad's and husbear's, 29th and 30th. That's two (2) cakes and two (2) ice creams and two (2) cards and bunches of presents - again. And I have a lunch date on the 27th with an ex-coworker. She started a new job and says there is the strong possibility I could land a part-time remote gig with them. However, she says they want new folks on-site a LOT during the first few months... in SanAntonio. TEXAS. I'm thinking NOT!!!

See here (if you can) her post from Monday:
< removed URL >
where she says:
"Oh my goodness. That is what I have to say about today my 1st day of work. I have never seen an operation like this in my life. It is huge really huge. 16000 people in one office building. There are 3 Starbucks and 5 cafeteria in one building. There are 3 gyms, huge weight rooms, 100s of treadmills and even special rooms just for cycling. The cafeterias serve food of many different cultures. They have services where they will run your errands like get your car serviced for $5 an hour. Now here is the thing that totally surprised me and can not get over. There are no telephones in the offices. Everyone uses a mobile device."

By the way... if you think you can find "me", be aware that I do NOT use my real name.

You aren't on Facebook as 'bear', Bear? Hmph. How can I stalk you then?

I'm thinking that San Antonio in the dead of winter after birthday season, and working from home after that might be a pretty good gig.

No... the hiring of a reporting and metrics person (or PEOPLE) would not be until Spring or Summer. The place (USAA) is in the midst of changing their web data system... she's in charge of that now. They won't need anybody until the big switchover.

Oh...that's less fun then. But still could be a pretty good deal.

They hire people as "W2"s (pay with deductions) or "1099"s (you manage your own taxes and health and stuff) and work (if full time) ONLY 40 hours per week. If you do 40 hours by Wednesday you have the rest of the week off. She does not know about part-time. But she says I could be looking at $40-$50 per hour.

Sigh.

At this time of the year, when the roadblocks come up with great regularity, I would like to share a personal experience with my closest friends about drinking and driving

As you well know, some of us have been known to have had brushes with the authorities on our way home from an occasional social session over the years.

A couple of nights ago, I was out for an evening with friends and had a couple of cocktails and some rather nice red wine. Knowing full well I may have been slightly over the limit, I did something I've never done before; I took a cab home. Sure enough, I passed a police road block but, since it was a cab, they waved it past.

I arrived home safely without incident, which was a real surprise as I have never driven a cab before and am not sure where I got it or what to do with it now that it's in my driveway.
