Yeah...but the CABLE is just wires. The USB port...that's another issue. A newer USB port should handle it. An old port probably only has 500 mA (.5 amps).

the port on the mifi - old or new versions - require the higher amps
looking at the last answer you found i wonder if there was a serious problem with the included chargers

btw when i considered the possibility of a faulty port i looked at the mifi closely. i see no way of opening this thing up to get to the port

the wall charger that comes with it and is supposed to charge and run the mifi at the same time has no port - wire goes right into the plug

Install the drivers and charge from a laptop – This is probably the simplest solution, since the MiFi will supposedly charge from any cable on a PC when the drivers are installed. But it didn’t work with my MacBook Pro, takes much longer to charge anyway, and requires a powered-on laptop.

Per article above. Drivers are properly installed on the laptop and the USB port on the laptop is enabled in BIOS....yes?

i'm meeting somebody locally on sunday who claims hers is in excellent working condition. will try her charger on mine. would be a real coincidence though that original charger and the one i got off amazon were both bad ..........

i guess in the meanwhile i keep charging my batts out of the unit in the uboc charger i bought ...... that's a real pain though

Install the drivers on the laptop. The drivers talk to the device, tell it to go into charge mode.

this would defeat my purpose though - once you plug the mifi into your computer it loses wifi capabilities and acts like any other usb modem
in my case that means i can't put the mifi in the spot where i get the strongest signal

Didn't know that. Dumb design.

EDIT: Would be interesting to see if it charges though.
