I thought the grey stone would "go" with the color of the stone walls they are (still!!!) building. Now (today) starting on the site around the addition and AC unit. (BTW... Mr. Bossman yesterday said they will probably be here until Wednesday. That's 3 full extra days than is what is on the contract. I asked... and it's "no charge"... mighty BIG of him!)
Now I am wondering about the carving... specifically the size (28" tall). I think it will be too large as a standalone "ornament", so I'm thinking toward the base of the tree, under its canopy. Then the birdbath, shepherd's hook (with 2 hanging baskets) and decorative boulders off to the left side. No other plantings ... at least for this year as I scope everything out.

And the days of walking/stepping on the borders (which WERE landscape timbers) doing planting or cleaning out is over. Can't walk on these walls... not "cemented" together. I'll bet some wildlife comes along and kicks them back to rubble. Deer, fox, large '.... or 'possum.

1) You live on the shores of one of the Great Lakes. The birds can take their own baths elsewhere.
2) If you want to attract birds, and deal with the cats at the same time, get a feeder with a squirrel stopper on the pole and make sure it isn't within jumping distance of something. Easier to mow around too, and lighter. Of course, you have to fill it with seed.
At least, that's what most do around here. The baths are ornamental if there at all, and usually only filled by rain, since there's a lake....

OK, instead of buying more vaping stuff, I signed up for a monthly contribution to CASAA (plus a donation to the Research Fund).
Now just have to wait for this past week's orders to arrive

I have six (6) bird feeders already - that defy the squirrels.
I also have three (3) birdbaths. But the copper one is going to be retired (except in the winter when it becomes the only one, heated) because of it's condition (unattractive patina, verdegris). If I am vegging on the deck, I like to watch them.
I also toss peanuts to the bluejays, blackbrirds and squirrels.
When they leave today, I'm going to scrounge some decent-side scrap rocks. I need to build up a border around a tree in the front yard. It needs one more course.

Which is why I supply them with peanuts... and pizza crusts... and corn-on-the-cob... and other yummies. All year long.
And a heated birdbath in winter for their water needs.
And they get stuff that falls out of the feeders (before the ground-feeding birds).
And the old lady next door just throws seed out to anybody/anything that wants it.
And how do they pay *ME* back???... by digging in the lawn, gardens and hanging pots. That's how.
