The chemistry inherent in AW IMR batteries makes them safer then traditional Li. They can't vent, and flame like Li cells can, but they can still get super hot and possibly melt your pv and maybe cause something to catch fire, if you should short circuit one.

IMR's can be over-discharged because there is no PCB. The recommended voltage range for most IMR cells is 4.20-2.5v (about 3.3v resting voltage is the lowest you should bring the cell without recharging it). But then again, even AW's can be way over discharged.

I found this recently, IIRC as an Ask the Vets answer, How to Store Batteries – Battery University

It is recommended to store li-ion batteries at 40% state-of-charge (basically 40% capacity); the easiest way to estimate this state is when the battery reads 3.7V (3.8V is 50% state-of-charge).

"Electronic" cigarettes for the most part have a cut-off when the battery reaches around 3.2 to 3.4V. It is usually stated that draining a battery below 2.7V will damage it. In my often wrong opinion, it should be fine to use batteries before charging (if you can't wait :D)

That was my understanding too, Catt! Those batteries have no memory, and my new PV will shut off (hopefully) when they get down to 3.3 or whatever the shutoff point is... So... :D

Thank y'all again!
