Our hot water developed a very strong smell of rotten eggs a while ago. We changed the rod in the water heater which solved that problem. More recently our cold water has developed an unpleasant odor which is of course in the hot also. We had our local water guy from a couple little towns over to test the water. We have iron, sulpher and something else. He explained the odor is carried by air or in other words the water has no smell til it comes out of the faucet. If you fill a glass and let it set til the air dissipates then it has no smell.

Just mentioning (you probably know this...but):
My GF had a neighbor that "did water systems". Local small shop. He put a whole system in (to the HOT and cold. Sucks that way...) and we can't find those filters he used anywhere. Get stuff that's "standard". The whole thing is a bit of a "lock you in gimmick" as well as a valuable service. So check it out. I know you're Mrs. Internet Research...

The GF got this stuff before internet was so...common. There's got to be a ton of info now. :)

Nice day today. Cool in the shade and very nice in the sun. The wood shed is full, brought a few pieces in,filled a small wood holder on the deck and made a small pile in front of the shed. The rest is just going to have to stay where it is til needed. No other place to put it and it's fine beside the shed. My back is feeling it today.

thanks, atty - but there are 2 different calcite filters, both with pros and cons
Clean Water Store: How To Treat Acid Well Water

and naturally, all the different manufacturers

    OK, buuuuuttt..........

    1) You don't want the soda ash thing since your PH is in the treatable range of calcite. The combo or the singular material. The blend is stated to be better.
    2) If you have sediment....use a pre-filter (and change it all the time, spending $$) and use the less expensive up-flow model.
    -or-
    3) use the back-flushable system. Prefilter optional, depending on sediment.

Do you know there is CO2 in the water?????

I'd use 3 if I had $$$ for it. I assume the thing-a-ma-job on top auto backflushes after a certain # of gallons has gone through. May still want a pre-filter.

So back-flushable combo would seem to be the best choice per the articles I've seen. Not an expert though.

ok, got a few minutes before it's time to feed the cats! ;)

anyhow, remember the lousy job i got grading and reseeding the front lawn last november? this morning he called and said they are planning to redo the mess and if it'll be today he'll call before 11am. no call!!!! - but i'm dallying about with my usual slowness, getting ready to leave just about lunch time. lo and behold, who comes down my driveway with a power rake? yup! you guessed it! ;) my whole schedule goes out the window because i was not gonna leave - not after the mess they created last year! :D
now my front yard does not have a speck of green left and no rain in the forecast till a 40% chance on saturday!
didn't get to town till after 4 and ended up with a pizza for supper!

and that reminds me - where's pepper!? ;)
    no word from bear .............

He covered it with dirt or mulch, yes? Or at least raked it in? From what I understand:

The sun's UV will kill the seed. That's why it has to be covered. Once you get water/rain, start watering it daily. (So I've been told).

I try to time it with a week of rain in the forecast ? :) Still not perfect. But I don't have hoses sprinklers in the areas I seeded....
